EXPERIENCE
Experience Curators provide students on campus with a welcoming and open atmosphere to cultivate
brotherhood and sisterhood. We challenge ourselves to think outside-the-box while planning and executing
engaging events, initiatives, and activities.
Past initiatives include planning MSA dinners and iftars, organizing hiking trips, and hosting weekly games’ nights.

COMMUNICATIONS
Communications Curators tell our story on campus through traditional and social media. We are brand
ambassadors and generate buzz for MSA events, initiatives, and activities.
Past projects include our signature MSA Discussion Circles, our ongoing photo and video series, and designing
and executing promotional campaigns.

OUTREACH
Outreach Curators develop and foster our relationships on campus and in the larger community. We collaborate
with external organizations to host events, showcase Islamic values through action, and also lead the MSA’s
advocacy efforts.
Past initiatives include hosting our Annual Students’ Union Election Forum, coordinating volunteer trips to the
Calgary Drop-In Centre, and meeting with our partners and sponsors.

SPIRITUAL
Spiritual Curators connect students to their faith. We use local resources to deliver unique programming for the
spiritual development of members and ensure MSA staples like Jumu’ah prayers run smoothly.
Past initiatives include coordinating weekly Circles of Knowledge and Tajweed classes, developing our Jumu’ah
Khutbah topic suggestion system, and hosting Qur’an competitions.

responsibilities + duties
RESPONSIBILITIES OF ALL COUNCIL MEMBERS
Together, the MSA Executive and Committees make up the Muslim Students’ Association Council.
The responsibilities of all MSA Council members include, but are not limited to the following:
• Striving to conduct all matters in accordance with Islamic guidelines;
• Remaining informed of the objectives and goals of the organization;
• Attending all relevant and required meetings;
• Promoting the Muslim Students’ Association and recruit members;
• Working closely with, and providing assistance to other team members;
• Communicating any concerns, disputes and/or issues that may arise to respective committee chairs and/or
President;
• Ensuring that the Muslim Students’ Association is represented in a professional manner at all times.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF ALL EXECUTIVE MEMBERS
The MSA Executive consists of the President; four (4) Vice Presidents: Experience, Communications, Outreach,
Spiritual; and two (2) non-voting members: Secretary and Treasurer.
In addition to the specific accountabilities outlined in the following role descriptions, the responsibilities of MSA
Executive members include, but are not limited to the following:
• Consulting with the President and fellow Executives on matters of significance;
• Crafting and executing annual organizational vision and goals;
• Establishing outline of portfolio objectives and roadmap for the year;
• Attending all MSA Meetings as scheduled by the President;
• Ensuring successful completion of committee responsibilities;
• Effectively delegate responsibilities to committee members;
• Gathering student input through focus groups and surveys to inform governance issues as related to
portfolio;
• Calling meetings (with committee, general council) as required to complete duties of portfolio;
• Working closely with and providing assistance to other Executive team members
• Leading by example to ensure all Council members are respected and valued.

roles
CURATOR
(UP TO 40 NON-EXECUTIVE POSITIONS)
Estimated hours per week: 2 – 4
Curators lie at the heart of our organization and utilize their passion and skills to contribute ideas, plan events, and
much more as part of a variety of committees.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Joining committees of interest to contribute ideas;
• Attending meetings as scheduled by committee chairs;
• Helping bring ideas to life through execution of plans;
• Assisting in promotion of organization and events.
Qualifications: Enthusiasm, commitment, and active team player

SECRETARY
(1 NON-VOTING EXECUTIVE POSITION)
Estimated hours per week: 5 – 7
Our Secretary is an organizational guru and ensures everyone is in loop about what’s going on.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Attending all relevant Executive and Committee Meetings;
• Preparing and circulating relevant meeting agenda and minutes;
• Maintaining the MSA membership list;
• Booking facilities for MSA meetings and events;
• Filing appropriate paperwork with the Students’ Union;
• Developing and implementing strategies to improve organizational efficiency.
Qualifications: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; familiarity with SU Club Orgsync and University
Classroom booking systems an asset.

TREASURER
(1 NON-VOTING EXECUTIVE POSITION)
Estimated hours per week: 5 – 7
Our Treasurer oversees the financial resources of our organization.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Attending all relevant Executive and Committee Meetings;
• Holding signing authority of club accounts;
• Reimbursing documented and approved expenses;
• Maintaining accurate and complete records of all financial transactions;
• Preparing year-end financial and operational reports;
• Ensuring accurate and ethical management of club assets;
• Developing and implementing strategies to ensure financial sustainability.
Qualifications: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; familiarity with MS Excel and basic accounting
an asset.

VICE PRESIDENT EXPERIENCE
(1 EXECUTIVE POSITION)
Estimated hours per week: 5 – 7
Our Vice President Experience oversees the planning and execution of a variety of MSA events, initiatives, and
activities throughout the year.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Chairing the Experience Committee;
• Ensuring successful completion of committee responsibilities;
• Effectively delegating responsibilities to committee members;
• Ensuring all committee members are respected and valued.
Qualifications: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; experience planning and executing large-scale
events an asset.

VICE PRESIDENT COMMUNICATIONS
(1 EXECUTIVE POSITION)
Estimated hours per week: 5 – 7
Our Vice President Communications oversees the communications strategy of the organization.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Attending all relevant Executive and Committee Meetings;
• Chairing the Communications Committee;
• Ensuring successful completion of committee responsibilities;
• Effectively delegate responsibilities to committee members;
• Managing the MSA brand with integrity;
• Preparing and executing comprehensive communication strategy
• Ensuring all committee members are respected and valued.
Qualifications: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; knowledge of marketing and communication;
proficiency in social media management and graphic design an asset.

VICE PRESIDENT OUTREACH
(1 EXECUTIVE POSITION)
Estimated hours per week: 5 – 7
Our Vice President Outreach oversees the planning and execution of a variety of MSA events, initiatives, and
activities throughout the year.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Chairing the Outreach Committee;
• Ensuring successful completion of committee responsibilities;
• Effectively delegating responsibilities to committee members;
• Ensuring all committee members are respected and valued.
Qualifications: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; familiarity with campus-community
stakeholders, local organizations an asset.

VICE PRESIDENT SPIRITUAL
(1 EXECUTIVE POSITION)
Estimated hours per week: 5 – 7
Our Vice President Spiritual oversees the spiritual tenets of the organization.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Chairing the Spiritual Committee;
• Ensuring successful completion of committee responsibilities;
• Effectively delegating responsibilities to committee members;
• Ensuring successful execution of Jumu’ah and daily prayers;
• Planning and executing activities for the spiritual nourishment of Muslims on campus;
• Ensuring all committee members are respected and valued.
Qualifications: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; rapport with local Imams and Muslim
Community organizations an asset

PRESIDENT
(1 EXECUTIVE POSITION)
Estimated hours per week: 7 — 10+
Our President serves as the head of the organization and is responsible for overseeing all organizational activities.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Chairing MSA Council and Executive meetings;
• Serving as an ex-officio member on all MSA Committees;
• Effectively delegating tasks to relevant committees;
• Conducting periodic reviews of committee activities;
• Representing the organization to the external community;
• Holding signing authority of all club accounts and documents;
• Holding accountability for decisions made by the organization;
• Ensuring all committee members are respected and valued.
Qualifications: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, previous Muslim Students’ Association Council
experience, track record of commitment and goal achievement.
