Many clubs still use a bunch of unconnected ways to communicate with members. Teams are living in
communication bubbles doing their own thing and that makes it difficult to communicate as and when you wish
with all or defined segments of your club.
Once you follow the steps below, every participating member of the club will become a member of their specific Sportora team
group and automatically become a member of your Sportora club group too. Once that’s done, club administrators and their
team coaches can communicate club and team events to all members and defined teams within their club, can group message
the entire club or specific teams, can private message individual members and much more. All your communications are
supported with free push notifications (like an SMS) and email alerts. Get ready to bring the club closer together!
1. CREATE YOUR CLUB GROUP: Download Sportora from your app store and create your club group by following the simple
instructions. (Tips: If you don’t receive your Sportora verification email into your inbox, it will be in your spam folder. Save your
club crest as an image on your phone so you can upload it when creating your group.)
2. GET YOUR TEAM COACHES TO JOIN UP: Go to the ‘Members’ section of your club group and import all the phone numbers of
your team coaches from your phonebook by clicking the ‘Add’ button. Then click ‘Invite’ which generates a SMS (text) from you
prompting them to search for and join the club group (standard network charges apply). If they already happen to have the app
downloaded they will receive a Sportora app message in their ‘Messages’ section with an option to accept or decline your
invitation. In this case, the team coaches member status will show ‘Pending’ until they accept your invitation at which point
their status will change to ‘Active’.
For team coaches who have not yet downloaded the app, they will receive your text message prompting them to join. They
then simply download the app and go to the ‘Sports Group’ section to search for the relevant club group. They choose it and
request to join it by clicking the ‘Join’ button which sends you a Sportora app message requesting to join. You will find the join
request in your ‘Messages’ section. You simply accept their request and they become active members.
3. MAKE YOUR TEAM COACHES CO-OWNERS SO THEY CAN CREATE TEAM GROUPS: Once accepted into the club group, you
simply click ‘Set as co-owner’ located opposite the name of each coach in the ‘Members’ section of the club group. They can
now go ahead and create their specific team groups. They can access the ‘Teams’ section within the club group to set up their
team group. (Tip: Ensure the team coaches create their own team groups and not you. This will avoid you becoming the team
owner and avoid you receiving team communications for every team within your club!)
4. HOW DO TEAM COACHES THEN INVITE TEAM MEMBERS TO JOIN UP? Once your team coaches create their new team
groups, they simply invite their respective team squads to join via the team group ‘Members’ section just as you did. The nice
part of this is when a team member is accepted in by the team group owner (team coach), that member automatically becomes
a member of the club group…nice!
5.WHAT IF SOME MEMBERS DON’T HAVE A SMARTPHONE? No problem. As long as those members without smartphones have
their phone numbers added to your group ‘Members’ section, they will receive details of an event created on Sportora. Once
you save an event, it auto-generates a text to those specific members sent from your phone (standard network charges apply).
6. GET GOING AND DON’T FORGET YOUR NON-PARTICIPATING MEMBERS! You and your team coaches are now ready to start
creating club and team events, sending group and private messages, sharing fixtures and results updates and generally making
your club way more connected. And for those that don’t play but simply want to stay up to date on club activities, all they need
to do is download the app, search for and request to join the club group!
