BLADE RUNNER GAME SEQUEL PROJECT

INTRODUCTION
The
following
document chronicles story
ideas generated for a
proposed follow-up to the
1997
Blade
Runner
computer game. Featured
within are seven wildly
different approaches to

extending
the
original
game's narrative. Some of
the concepts are meant to
serve as direct sequels or
prequels, while others can
be set anywhere in the
timeline of the Blade
Runner fictional universe.

THE HUNTER RISES

Having fled Terra
after a ruinous incident,
former Blade Runner Ray
McCoy is hiding from his
past in an Off-world
colony. When his beloved
falls victim to a deadly
virus, he is approached by
a representative of the
mysterious
Prometheus
Passel with an offer he
can’t refuse.
In exchange for a
cure he so desperately
seeks, McCoy is to return
to Earth and retire four

that
have
outlived their designated
lifespan. Now that the
replicants have reappeared
on the grid, they need to be
quietly eliminated before
the implications of their
prolonged survival become
clear to the public.

THE COLOR OF THE CRYSTAL

You are Crystal
Steele, a hotshot Blade
Runner fresh off her
promotion. Following up
on a sighting of a Nexus 6
long thought expired, you
discover the existence of
Violet Veil, a criminal
syndicate
that
uses
contraband replicants as
labor in a large scale drug
operation.
Teaming up with
Arno Dale, a DEA officer in
pursuit of retribution, you

PLOT BRAINSTORMING

wage a secret war against
the dangerous organization
and the deadly drug they
produce. Your loyalties are
tested though, when it is
revealed that Shepherd
Steele, a former LAPD
sergeant and your father, is
deeply involved in the
Violet Veil's activities.
With no one to
trust and running on a thin
edge, you will eventually
fall on one side... or the
other.

YUKON NIGHTS

Enter the world of
Tom Cane, a disgraced
Blade Runner suspended
for retiring a human.
Playing as Cane, you
receive
a
shot
at
redemption when an agent
of Tyrell Corporation tasks
you with retiring an
escaped replicant – a
prototype
model
nicknamed Albatross.
The only lead you
got on Albatross is that he
or she is staying at the
Yukon Hotel. After renting
a room there, you slowly
come to know the other

PLOT BRAINSTORMING

residents. Ultimately, you
will have to identify
Albatross among them and
make a difficult decision
regarding their fate.
Since the identity
of Albatross is randomly
assigned to one of the hotel
patrons
on
each
playthrough, the setup will
allow for intimate but
highly
replayable
experience with multiple
endings dependent not
only on the fate of the
replicant, but also your
interactions with the other
characters.

MORE REPLICANT THAN REPLICANT

Dietrich Masuda, a
genetic engineer formerly of
Tyrell
Corporation,
is
running an illegal business
developing
counterfeit
replicants. His constructs,
while much inferior to
genuine Tyrell product, are
popular in both poor Offworld colonies and among
shady
terrestrial
entrepreneurs.
You inhabit the
coat of Phil Resch, a Blade
Runner suffering from a
rare genetic disease that
systematically
destroys
your
internal
organs.

PLOT BRAINSTORMING

Having
recently
been
transferred
from
San
Francisco,
your
first
assignment in Los Angeles
is to dismantle Masuda's
operation.
Once you confront
the good doctor, you are
faced with an agonizing
conundrum. When Masuda
offers to cure the condition
that has been plaguing you
since childhood, you will
be forced to weigh the
worth of your own survival
against the value of
bringing the criminal to
justice.

MISTER NIGHTTIME

As Rick Deckard,
the rising star of the LAPD
Rep-Detect Unit, you are
tasked with locating and
exterminating
a
rogue
Nexus-3 replicant. What
appears
to
be
a
straightforward
hunt
quickly turns ugly when
your target is revealed to
be just a pawn in a much
larger conspiracy.
Eventually,
you
stumble upon a criminal
outfit
that
smuggles
replicants from Off-world
colonies for sale to the

wealthy and the crooked
on Earth. As you invest
yourself into the peculiar
case, your marriage begins
to unravel, complicating
the matters.
Your investigation
culminates in a brutal
shootout at a steel mill,
earning you the nickname
Mr. Nighttime and setting
you on your way towards
early retirement. But are all
those experiences real or
just artificial memories...?

PRODIGAL

As Bruno Ash, a
replicant super soldier, you
fought countless wars in
the Off-world colonies.
Following the Battle of the
Gemini, you join your
squad
members
in
hijacking a transport ship
with a view to starting a
new life on Earth. As soon
as you reach Los Angeles,
you find yourself under fire
from the local police. Your
companions leave you
behind to save their own
artificial skins and you are
seemingly retired.
Months later, you
are brought back to life as
part of a clandestine Tyrell
Corporation project. You
were rebuilt for a morbid
purpose: to find and
eliminate
your
former

PLOT BRAINSTORMING

comrades one by one.
While most of your targets
exist in the game-world
from the beginning, at first
you only have the abilities
necessary to reach but a
few. However, after each
successful execution you
get an opportunity to
upgrade
your
skills,
allowing you to discover
new areas and opening up
alternate
solutions
to
puzzles.
After your macabre
task is accomplished, you
must
decide
between
remaining with your new
employers, turning against
them or trying to escape
their watchful gaze. Faced
with the ultimate test, will
you prove to be more
human than human...?

BLADE RUNNER ASCENDANT

In a direct followup to the original game's
replicant
sympathizer
ending, you take the role of
Crystal Steele. Having
survived
Ray
McCoy's
bloody desertion from the
Blade Runner Unit, you are
left with artificial organs
and a thirst for vengeance.

your
commanding officer's firm
protest, you travel to

goal in mind: to bring the

get a lead on McCoy's
location.
