dialect term “massa alto”, which mean “the highest”.
Launched in 1975 under the creative supervision of Afra and Tobia
Scarpa, and now coordinated by Antonio Citterio, the collection
is defined by the quality of the craftsmanship , the richness of the
materials and a painstaking quest for fine details. It is a complete
collection of furniture that combines sophisticated, hand-made
craftsmanship with today’s latest technology Maxalto has always
been committed to building its products to order.
The materials and finishes can be customized, thanks to production
techniques which rely heavily on manual work. Skilled craftsmen
involved in every detail offer custom solutions that make the product
a “unique project” that is designed and produced to satisfy even the
most demanding client.

ALCEO / Standard version in the Maxalto collection

THE ATELIER
Maxalto Atelier’s service offers the opportunity to customize the size
and finishes of the products.
This results in a genuine ‘tailor made’ solution, designed and custom
made exclusively for the customer, just like in an ‘atelier’.
For sales assistance with a Maxalto Atelier product, simply send a
request to Customer Service, who will engage the services of the
B&B Italia Design Office to produce drawings of the product and
issue the relevant quotation.

ALCEO / Special Maxalto Atelier creation

The B&B Italia Design Office will carefully check the technical and
production feasibility of each “Maxalto Atelier” custom product.

CUSTOM FINISHES
Maxalto’s core philosophy is based on its experience of interior
decoration, an awareness that the right combination of colour,
texture and materials is essential to create the desired atmosphere.
The finishes can feature unique materials and/or colour to match
a control sample.

TWO DIFFERENT WAYS OF CUSTOMIZING
THE FINISHES:
Special finishes to match a control sample supplied by a client:
painted metals, shellac, glossy and satin laquer finishes in colours not
available in the B&B Italia or Maxalto colour range, custom wood
stains, custom veneers or the use of alternative marble finishes.
To create custom-stained products, the client can send their color sample or provide Customer
Service with a RAL number of the color. Based on these indications, the Customer Service will
create and send the client a “counter sample” for approval. The order can then be processed
according to a schedule that will be communicated when the order confirmation is issued.

Finishes in the colour range of B&B Italia and Maxalto:
it is possible to apply a finish not available within the standard
product range by choosing between the available B&B Italia and
Maxalto samples.
When selecting finishes it is important to consider that sample colours are a rough indication,
and natural wood finishes can change colour in in time through exposure to natural light and
or simply through the aging of the wood. In the following pages indicate the B&B Italia and
Maxalto range of standard finishes.
