Original statement of the first edition:
The publishers have brought out this book because it is a document which contains many views
which are contrary to the regularly understood meanings and concepts attributed to the philosophy
and psychology of Satanism and adds to the understanding of the phenomenon.
This book will undoubtedly be of great use to researchers, historians, psychologists and occultists
both now and in future years and will add to extant literature on the subject.
The publishers accept no responsibility for any occurrence stemming from information given in this
book and neither do they condone its views or contents. It is not meant to incite readers to any form
of action which would disregard their moral, legal or social responsibilities and is intended for a
specialist audience of students of the occult.
The main body of this work (the Rituals, chants, etc,) is taken from the Black Book used by the
Temple of the Sun, a Satanist group. The remainder (What is Satanism, Satanist Magickal Grades,
etc,) is taken from the instruction texts used by the Temple of the Sun and the Order of Nine Angles.
The only change made – at the request of the Temple of the Sun – is in the substitution, in the
chants and some of the texts, of ‘Shaitan’ for ‘Satan’. This is in accord with the current teaching of
Frater A’s ‘Hymn to the Great Dawn’ has been included in the section of on chants. Otherwise, the
chants are traditional.
