tradition, a rite of passage
among boys coming-of-age to
undergo circumcision.
Sixty-five new men ages 9-15
years old were made last May 7,
2016 at Brgy. Igtalongon in Igbaras,
Iloilo.
The surgical mission was
organized by the Family and
Community Medicine Department
of the West Visayas State University
– College of Medicine as per
request
by
the
Igtalongon’s
barangay council through Punong
Barangay Reynaldo Efondo.
The team was headed by Dr.
Robert Jonathan Quimpo along with
the surgical residents of the WVSUMedical Center (Dr. Timothy John
Biñas, Dr. Mark Anthony Basquez,
and Dr. Sir Jun Galura) and incoming
Post-Graduate Interns Dr. Arielle

Marie Therese Castañeda and Dr.
Karen Joy Carvajal. The Asian
Medical
Students
AssociationWVSU and the Order of Asclepius
were also tapped to man the said
activity.
The
Order
was
represented by JLA Louise Cecille
del Rosario and Charles Jebb
Juanitas of Batch 38. Asclepian
Clerks Stephanie Grace Lucero
and Meghan Angela Nicolette
Lamprea were also present during
the event together with other
clinical clerks currently having
their community exposure.
Dr. April Rose AmihanJurilla along with the RHU staff
provided the instruments and
assistance during the circumcision
drive.
Apart from antibiotics and
analgesics, the patients were also
given a shot of Tetanus Toxoid post
– operation.

Brgy. Igtalongon has been an
adopted community by the college
where clinical clerks and PGIs in
WVSU-MC are exposed to.
Currently, the structure of
the barangay’s health station is
completed. This will also serve as
their
birthing
center.
The
community is just waiting for the
necessary equipment to arrive for
the facility to be functional.#
To date, there are a total of 899
individuals who benefited the
circumcision drive.
