My agenda for ICPAK
Devolution
ICPAK

MEMBER

SINCE

As the country devolves its governance, so must
ICPAK devolve its services to its members. Members
should be able to meet and have CPD's training
seminars closer to them. The ICPAK branches should
be enhanced and where plausible branch offices
should be opened and well resourced to provide
member services and training closer to the members.

MBAYA
FOR ICPAK COUNCIL
VOTE

The real opportunity for success lies
within the person and not in the job.

2016

My

promise is that with me the job will be done successfully.

Dear ICPAK Member;
It is that time of year when you choose a
member to serve you on the ICPAK
Council. I hereby raise my hand and offer
This
to serve you on the Council.
manifesto sets out what I would like to
achieve as a council member.

A Little Bit About Me
I am proud ICPAK member since 2004,
and currently serve as a partner with the
firm Mbaya & Associates where I have
been since 1999. I have a Bachelors
degree in International Business
Administration from USIU and a Masters'
degree in Development Finance from the
University of Stellenbosch.
Whilst the challenges of running a firm
have kept me busy, it is in the areas of
developing people and collaborative
teams that has presented me with the
most joy. I seek to work with the ICPAK
members to develop an Institute that we
can all be proud of.
When not accounting, I follow rugby
football union and I am keen on
conservation. I serve as the treasurer of the
East African Wildlife Society and have
served as the treasurer of my local rugby
team. However, my most cherished
moments are those spent with my wife
Sally and two sons, Ian and Lee.

“Here for you”

I would also like to pursue partnerships between the
ICPAK branches and the county governments. This
will enhance ICPAK member participation in the
running, governance and oversight of County
governments thereby creating an opportunity for
ICPAK members to impact the nation positively by
providing their knowledge and skills to the county
governments
If not us, who? If not now, when? Hillel The Elder

Opportunities
ICPAK members have a major role to play the
improvement of governance in this nation. If ever
there was a time this nation needed us, it is now.
Through ICPAK, Accountants must continue to lobby
and play their rightful role in the Public Finance
Management, Fiscal planning and financial oversight
of this nation. I will seek greater ICPAK member
involvement in the following areas:
i. Greater participation in the running of county
and national government
ii. Accountants having a greater say in the
formation and implementation of national
and county budget policy
iii. Providing an avenue where accountant
whistle blowers in practice, industry or public
sector are protected. This will help
accountants stand their professional ground
even in a hostile environment
“People who are crazy enough to think that they can
change the world are the ones who do”

My interaction with you thus
far
Whilst we may not have met face to face thus
far, here are the areas we may have interacted
I serve as a member of the International
Federation of Accountants (IFAC) Small and
Medium Practitioners Board. If you are a small or
medium sized practitioner or have enjoyed the
services one of them, chances are we shared
ideas along the way.

I have played a key part in the formation of
some of the branches of the Institute and
provided valuable technical support and
training. As a branch member I hope that
together we can continue to enhance and
enrich the branch experience.

MBAYA
FOR ICPAK COUNCIL

I will try and assist foster partnerships that will lead
to the development of an affordable audit
software that can serve this country and this
region. This will assist practitioners to be more
efficient and complaint thereby giving them a
chance to offer greater value add to their clients.
“Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will
take you everywhere” Albert Einstein

Recognition
ICPAK needs to engage more with make the CPA
(K) brand be known and acceptable globally. I
will pursue more Mutual Recognition Agreements
with other Institutes in leading and growing
economies to allow members to practice in other
regions across the globe.
“If you have knowledge, let others light candles in
it” Margaret Fuller

I will also encourage members to participate in
IFAC discourse and engage closely in the drafting
of international standards and ensure the ICPAK
member is recognised internationally as a net
positive contributor to the accounting profession
globally.
“The man who has confidence in himself gains the
confidence of others” Hasidic Proverb

I have served on the Practitioners Development
Committee of the Institute since being coopted in 2008.
This committee seeks to
enhance the capacity of Kenyan practitioners.
If you have worked with Kenyan practitioners,
we have worked together.

MIKE

Accessibility
The Institute has to fast track the automation of
member services such as training, providing an Elibrary and quicker feedback to member queries
and concerns. We must hasten the move to the
digital space and provide these essential services
at an affordable cost.

I have conducted several trainings for the
Institute both in Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda
and received a certificate of commendation
from the Institute for my service to the
profession. My prayer is that what we shared in
those training sessions was useful to you.

Locally, we will strive to make ICPAK be known for
professionalism and serving the public interest. This
will make ICPAK and its members earn and
maintain the trust of the public.
“You must be the change you wish to see in the
world” Mahatma Gandhi

Mentorship
I will help the Institute to implement the policy that seeks to
actively attract, train and mentor young minds into profession and
help them grow into responsible citizens of the nation. This can be
done by offering credits incentives to those accountants who
invest their time in blooding young talent. We can offer such
accountants discounted training rates or even offer them CPD
hours for time spent mentoring our future accountants.

Conclusion

Vote for me dear member, and we can take
this journey together. The real opportunity for
success lies within the person and not in the
job. My promise is that with me the job will be
done successfully. God bless you and God
Bless ICPAK.
