President’s Message

AS MY FINAL YEAR AS PRESIDENT of the Florida Assisted Living Association has ended,
I am truly invigorated to see the direction that the association is going. As I reflect on my
years as a member of FALA, I am inspired to see the growth and transformation that has
taken place within FALA in recent years. The friendships and relationships that developed
in my first years at FALA have continued to grow and are now stronger than ever. I cherish
these friendships as I do the new friendships I have made in recent years. The dedication
and perseverance of our membership has been relentless. I am often reminded of a slogan
from the Boy Scouts, and I know many of you know the slogan: “Leave it better than you
found it.” As members of FALA, I challenge all of you to have that attitude for the association,
your communities, and your businesses.
I urge you to consider the path less chosen and become the trailblazer in your job, your
community, and our state. As operators and owners of businesses, I ask you to seek out new
talent and help mold them into the future business leaders of this bold industry. Encourage
them to leave the organization better than they found it. Encourage them to be bold in their
thoughts and ideas for the company’s future, as well as their own future.
During my several years as President of FALA, I have had the pleasure of serving on statewide
workgroups and working side-by-side with state leaders, agency heads, experts on aging,
and owners and operators of some of the most beautiful assisted living communities in
the state of Florida. These workgroups all focused on ways to improve the quality of care
for our seniors and others residing in assisted care. I want to thank the FALA members for
giving me the chance to serve and mature into a leader. It has been my honor to serve as
your President. I will continue to challenge the FALA staff to come up with new ideas and
ways to move assisted living regulation forward in order to help the seniors of Florida.
Lastly, I challenge my fellow owners and operators of assisted living facilities to make your
facility great.
I had a great time with so many of you at the FALA Annual Conference & Tradeshow, and
I thank you in advance for everything you will do to enable FALA to carry on its mission that
revolves around Helping Members Succeed!
Best regards,

Luis Collazo, President
Florida Assisted Living Association

they don’t call, they don’t write. I’m beginning to think it’s me.”
