MAY 2016 MEDIA RELEASE

GET INTO RESOURCES JUNE 22, 23 & 24, 2016
North Metropolitan TAFE, 25 Aberdeen St, Northbridge, WA
Following the last four years of hugely successful events, GET INTO RESOURCES is celebrating its 5th birthday with
this year’s event taking place at the North Metropolitan TAFE in Northbridge, on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of June 2016.
GET INTO RESOURCES is designed to promote interest in resource sector careers by engaging high school students
and bringing them together with people employed in the industry, to experience a day of presentations, activities
and dialogue.
GET INTO RESOURCES is for Year 10 secondary school students who are about to make their career choices and
subject selection for senior school. Students rotate through a series of 30 minute activities and presentations about
a range of resources careers. The workshops will feature intimate insights into a range of occupations from industry
professionals. These include geologists, surveyors, metallurgists, environmental scientists, engineers, health and
safety, human resources, technicians and tradespeople. These workshops can help Year 10 students choose the
appropriate school subjects for their area of interest.
Deputy Premier and Training & Workforce Development Minister Liza Harvey encouraged students to take
advantage of this valuable vocational event.
“TAFE offers the best training in Western Australia to lead students into a rewarding and exciting career in the
mining industry and should certainly be considered by any student wanting to enter the industry,” she said.
GET INTO RESOURCES has had over 700 students attend throughout the last four years. This year, 300 students have
registered. Current resource industry workers are potential role models and mentors and by presenting at GET INTO
RESOURCES they give students an opportunity to meet people already working in mining and related sectors.
GET INTO RESOURCES participants experience firsthand what people in the industry do and even have an
opportunity to visit a simulated underground mining environment (The CUT) situated at the same venue.
The CUT Mine is a pioneering learning resource and the only facility of its kind in Western Australia. The unique
underground mine is situated in the heart of the North Metropolitan TAFE, 25 Aberdeen Street building, and takes
training to a new level, providing students with a real “hands on” experience of life underground.
GET INTO RESOURCES has been supported through direct sponsorship and companies encouraging employees to
participate as guests, presenters, exhibitors and activity facilitators. The event is well supported by resource
companies and other organisations that are keen to address the predicted shortfall in trained and qualified
personnel which the resources industry may face in the future.
Students discover they have a huge range of diverse, rewarding and enjoyable careers to choose from, in an industry
they may never have previously considered.
GET INTO RESOURCES School group only registration (10 students) is completed by contacting;
