One for the Children this Summer

A childhood favourite for most of us I’m sure, Roald Dahl, who would have
been in his hundredth year, is being celebrated this summer with various
events throughout the capital.

For those of us who read our blogs avidly you know that ‘Afternoon Tea’ is a
favourite of ours and this one is really something special.

Aqua Shard, the official afternoon tea partner for Roald Dahl 100, will be
offering something truly scrumptious during the summer months.

Available from the 4th July until the end of September and presented in
Charlie’s Great Glass Elevator, the afternoon tea will offer a nostalgic romp
through the wonderful world of Dahl.

Following the format of a traditional afternoon tea, with a curious twist,
savoury and sweet items all take inspiration from some of Roald Dahls most
loved books, all served on bespoke crockery depicting Quentin Blake’s
famous illustrations.
A selection of savouries include the BFG breakfast sandwich, Pelly’s favourite
smoked salmon sandwich and Mr Twit’s bird pie. Sweet treats however are
the Roly-Poly Bird choux bun, Notsobig Crocodile white chocolate egg, The
Giant Peach Meringue and Grubber Sweetshop giant Wangdoodles (your
guess is as good as ours on that last one!)

All guests of Aqua Shard will also be transported into the world of Roald
Dahl’s books with a colourful, transparent installation adoring the triple
storey atrium windows in the afternoon tea and bar area. These will include
many of the characters you’d hope to see, including a bespoke creation by
Quentin himself.
