I apologize for the delay in answering you. I was very busy last week with all sort of matters.
CAPE staff have the right to subscribe to any social media site they want, but, as the same time, they
have an obligation to be loyal to their employer, CAPE, and to show respect to all CAPE members.
Consequently, CAPE management cannot order its CAPE employees to remove themselves from social
media sites, but it can intervene if they post comments that are disloyal to CAPE or disrespectful
towards its members. In other words, CAPE management can only intervene on a case by case basis., as
a result of a valid complaint. It should be noted that some CAPE employees made comments,
interpreted by some as "partisan", in response to personal attacks against them by some CAPE
members. They were defending themselves, not "taking side".
As for the vetting of the news release, there may be a need for a protocol on what should and should
not be published. I will talk about it with CAPE management and our Communications staff.

I am hearing from my Local members about CAPE staff's names on social media, and would like to
express my concerns in this regard.
I respectfully request that you ask all CAPE staff to remove themselves from partisan sites such as this
one. Pierre Lebel is on this closed group (he was invited and added prior to his being hired by CAPE,
and this may lead to a number of negative conclusions):
I am aware that others may be part of "secret" email lists too but I don't know all staff members names.
If this material is shown on public sites and is negative, it will be an embarrassment to CAPE. I am aware
that there is already a situation.
Staff members should not be seen as being engaged in partisan groups; this inflames the current
situation. CAPE members are seeing this type of liaison as siding with the Slate or the President. ESU
jobs exist through the periods of President and NEC terms, thus they must remain neutral and loyal to
CAPE the organization first and foremost.
Further, I for one, do not want to be lectured to by staff. Please do not forward my messages to staff to
reply to me. They can reply to you. I was not impressed with Ms. Truswell's reply to me regarding "in
camera" minutes. I found it very partisan in tone.
Lastly, I would like to know if instructions have been given to Comms staff directing them not to engage
negative commentors and to have the media releases appropriately vetted prior to posting? Our
members were very upset about a particular news release (Greg has already addressed that with you). I
would like to know what steps have been taken so that this is not repeated? At minimum it is a training
