Dear Jahan and Yasmine!
I hesitate to reach out and be another fawning fan girl, but having had many people reach out to me
(after being excommunicated from the Mormon church) because I was an inspiration to them, I now
know how meaningful these types of communications can be and want you to feel the love and
gratitude I have for you!
First off, I partly owe you two confident women for the strength it took to stand up to the church I grew
up in! You two women set an example of confident femininity in a male dominated career. You took
constant unfair criticism that men would not have received with less success and talent than you. You
chose to live the life that you wanted, in an authentic way despite all the haters! That example and your
music inspired me in many dark moments to stay strong and fight
against most everyone in my Mormon world to stand for truth, love
and authenticity! Thank you for being that great example to me so
that I could be an example to others. I've had literally hundreds and
hundreds of people reach out and thank me for speaking up for
them against the church when they couldn't or for inspiring them to
be more authentic and speak out against the church despite the fear
and social isolation it brings. Together we've literally saved the
lives of several LGBTQ Mormon children.
Secondly, I have a 6 year old daughter that loves you two and your
songs. She blasts them at the top of her lungs in the car with me!
Not only has your example helped me be an example to thousands
or people leaving the Mormon church, you have been a great
example to my daughter Aspen. She will grow up to be a strong
woman with a confidence that can only come from living your
whole life knowing that you are equal to men and gender, gender
identity, sexual preference, race, etc. don't matter. All that matters
is the amount of love and happiness that you share with the world.
So, thank you for the amazing amounts of love and happiness that
you have shared with the world through your music and your example!
