DISTRICT ASSEMBLY
Grand Caprice Restaurant, Cagayan de Oro
April 23, 2016
Hosted by RC Carmen Valley
By PRES. SUSAN P. DELAS ALAS-LONKEY
Rotary Club of Carmen Valley
T
he District Training Assembly (DISTASS) is an annual club leaders training of the district aimed at giving
the incoming club officers the knowledge and guidance needed for them to effectively discharge the duties and
responsibilities of their respective positions. It provides an
opportunity for all incoming officers and chairs to “get on the
same page,” and an avenue for old Rotary members—even
non-incoming officers—to get updates on new strategies on
running each respective Rotary club. It is helpful in building
“esprit de corps” in the club. For new members, especially
those with leadership potential, it is also a great opportunity
to receive an immersive orientation in Rotary.
For this Rotary Year 2016-2017, the Rotary Club of
Carmen Valley once again, for two consecutive years, has
been requested to host the District Training Assembly seminar. Last year’s DISTASS—RY 2015-2016—held on April
11, 2015 at Grand Caprice, Cagayan de Oro City, was a resounding success, being tagged in the district as the most

beautifully hosted and most well-organized DISTASS with
a record-breaking attendance of 280 participants coming
from the district’s 45 Rotary clubs. However, with the more
aggressive promotion done by the host club, this year’s
DISTASS for RY 2016-2017 on April 23, 2016 at the same
venue, under the leadership of DG Jing Dela Calzada and
District Trainer PDG Manny U. Along, even broke last
year’s record with a higher attendance of 292 participants
coming from 42 clubs.
The number of participants was way more than what the
host club expected. Yet, RC Carmen Valley was still able
to efficiently manage the event. The new changes and additional fellowship activities implemented by DG Jing and
PDG Manny to spice up the opening plenary session gave
a new color to the DISTASS program. Top-notch speakers
were invited: PDG Marcos “Mac” C. Hermoso, Regional
Rotary Foundation Coordinator; and PDG Virgilio “Jun” G.
Farcon, Jr., chair of the Philippine College of Rotary Governors (PCRG) RY 2014-2015. Other top-notch District 3870
speakers/trainors who are mostly members of the District
Training Team included PDG George Hamoy, PDG Tess Navales, DGN Frank Manga, PDS Bebotte Chu, PDS Hubert
Quiblat, PAG Eve Rahon, PAG Myra Balandra, PAG Bobby
Sebastian, PAG Manny Aliñabon, PAG Bans Ibrahim, PAG
Mar Selecios, and District ICT Chair Clifford Roa, among
others.
One of the highlights of the afternoon Plenary Session
was the oath-taking of DG Jing Dela Calzada as District
Governor for RY 2016-2017, administered by PDG Jun Farcon.
Congratulations to the officers and members of the Rotary Club of Carmen Valley, led by Pres. Joyce Libot, RY
2015-2016 and PAG Luis Ramon “Boc” M. Pineda who
co-chaired DISTASS 2016 with Pres. Susan D. Lonkey for
bringing another laurel to the club! Kudos for the Club’s
teamwork and another job well done!
