J

uly 1, 2016 was the start of another Rotary Year for
Rotarians all over the world. New administration with
fresh and energetic blood continuing the thrust of Rotary
which is “Service Above Self.”
The Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro East Urban of Rotary International District 3870 under the leadership of Rotary
Year 2016-2017 Pres. Rachaille Astrid “Ching” P. Ferrer is
no different. For its participation in the district-wide New
Year celebration with the theme, “Dakilang Ina, Ikaw Na,”
the Club deliberated and chose to give recognition to mothers who bested the criteria set by Project Chair Rosalinda
Caragos.
On July 7, 2016, during the Club’s regular weekly meeting, the chairman and members made a special program and

awarded the “Dakilang Ina, Ikaw Na” winners to Lina Estrella G. Faburada for the Professional Category, and Erlinda
Sabanal for the Senior Citizens Category

ZONE 2 CLUBS CELEBRATE NEW ROTARY YEAR

J

uly 1 is the Rotary New Year celebrated around the
world. This year, the theme was “Dakilang Ina, Ikaw
Na!” The activity was held in one of the remote areas of
Iligan City where the tri-people of Iligan—Muslims, Christians and the Lumads—are settled.
The recipients were grade school students of Tubaran
Central School in Barangay Mandulog, Iligan City.
Hygiene kits, umbrellas, slippers, and school supplies
were given to pre-school children. School supplies were given to Grades 1-6 students.
The kids also had a sumptuous Jollibee feast, with the
Jollibee mascot entertaining them.
Mothers, who were the center of the New Year’s theme,
were given blood typing and free medical consultation with

medicines from the city health office.
Four clubs participated in the joint activity, namely, RC
Iligan, the mother club, with President Glen Dalogdog who is
also the Chairman of the Council of Presidents, and with him
were PP James Descallar and Rtn. Dagaerag; RC Iligan South
with President Henry Lacida, PDG Jimmy Semana and DGN
Frank Manga; RCMetro Iligan with President Noel Borja and
two doctors who are also members of their club; RC Iligan
Maria Cristina with President Delia Genobaten, PAGs Babes
Garcia, Eve Rahon, Nenen Tabimina, Ann Saavedra, Neachee
Laya and Maddie Lluch, IPP Lai Garciano, PPs Nika Obed,
Bel Anonuevo, PE Marivic Balchin, Rtns. Girlie Martinez,
Ven Chiong and the Club’s Assistant Governor Cheche Ferraren. Rotaract Club of Iligan Maria Cristina, headed by President Dan Garciano, also joined the activity.
The Army mechanized brigade also joined in the new
year celebration.

Hundreds of pupils benefit from the “Dakilang
Ina, Ikaw Na!” joint project of Zone 2 clubs. Free

RID 3870 ZONE 3, CLUSTER 3 FREE PAP SMEAR & CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING

T

he four clubs of Zone 3, Cluster 3, namely, RC
Kidapawan, RC Kidapawan East, RC Metro Kidapawan, and RC Metro Mlang with AG Noel Baynosa,
and their partners the Family Planning Organization of the
Philippines (FPOP) and JRS Express, gave a Free Orientation Seminar for Women of Reproductive Age on June 30,
2016 in line with their Free Pap Smear and Cervical Cancer
Screening on July 1, 2016 for Maternal and Child Care, and
in welcoming the Rotary New Year.
The said project was conducted at the FPOP, Esperanza
Building, Quezon Boulevard, Kidapawan City.
50 patients from poor barangays benefited from the project, and received Family Planning commodities.

RC COTABATO CITY SOUTH CELEBRATES THE NEW ROTARY YEAR WITH “BUNTIS CONGRESS”

C Cotabato City South joined the district-wide celebration of the new Rotary year for DG Jing dela
Calzada’s “Dakilang Ina, Ikaw Na!” through “Buntis
Congress,” a mother-and-child care joint project with the
City Government of Cotabato-Office on Health Services
in partnership with USAID MindanaoHealth, LGU Cluster
3 Barangays, DOH 12 and ARMM, DSWD 12, AL- NOR

Mall, Yakult, JCI Cot., Shaheca, Pharma Co’s., SUGNI, and
MEGASOFT.
There were Free Health Education, Free 100 Buntis Kits,
Free Ultrasound, Free Bone Scanning, Free Medical Consultation, Free Vitamins/Medicines, Free Immunization, Free
HIV Test, Free Syphilis Test, Free Ankle Brachial Index.
Grand raffle prizes, giveaways, and tokens were also given away to the lucky winners.

RC TACURONG CONDUCTS MATERNAL CLASS FOR INDIGENT PREGNANT WOMEN

T

he Rotary Club of Tacurong, in partnership with the
Rotaract Club of Talakudong, conducted a maternal
class for 18 indigent pregnant women in the hope that
they could gain tips and practical knowledge in taking better
care of themselves and their babies.
The class, dubbed as “Dakilang Ina, Ikaw Na,” was organized to mark the start of the Rotary New Year bringing with
it the theme Rotary Serving Humanity.
According to RC Tacurong President Jose Jemuel Dael,
the activity was simultaneously conducted in all clubs under
District 3870.
“The activity shows the advocacy of the Rotary which is
caring for the welfare of women and children, among others,” he said.
He also hoped that the participants would be able to learn
and apply the knowledge that they gained in the course of
their pregnancy, delivery and newborn care.

He added that the community, especially those in need,
can also expect more projects on water, sanitation and hygiene as well as on education and literacy.
During the maternal class held in City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Center on July 1, 2016, Rotaractor
Jona Phie Montero, a clinical instructor and midwife, talked about safe motherhood and breastfeeding practices to the
participating pregnant women.
Moreover, City Health Nurse Gina Ramiscal discussed
about preparation activities before and during delivery,
while City Health Nutritionist Riza Abejero talked about
proper nutrition for the mother and the baby.
Rotarian Dante Eugenio, an ophthalmologist, also talked
about what to do to take care of the newborn’s eyes.
After the class, gifts containing things for the baby were
given away to the pregnant indigents as a token of gratitude
for participating in the said activity. (jd)

RC MALAYBALAY’S GIFT-GIVING AND FELLOWSHIP WITH YWAM NEHEMIAH HOUSE

C Malaybalay welcomed the new Rotary year with
the district-wide theme, “Dakilang Ina, Ikaw Na!”
at the Youth With a Mission (YWAM) Nehemiah
House, Patpat, Malaybalay City on July 1, 2016.
The YWAM Nehemiah House is a 24-hour residential facility catering to female victims, aged 7-18 years old, of sex-

ual abuse, maltreatment, abandonment, and child trafficking.
The event was done to support basic vocational education,
economic development, maternal and child health—focused
on the abused minors—and peace and conflict resolution.
There were a gift-giving, fellowship, and a sit-down
meeting with the administration of the Nehemiah House.

The RC Malaybalay Rotarians with the Nehemiah House admin and girls during the Rotary new year celebration with the
theme, “Dakilang Ina, Ikaw Na!” last July 1.
