ROTARACT CLUB OF ILIGAN MARIA CRISTINA

he Rotary Club of Iligan Maria Cristina has been all
out in supporting its Rotaract club which had its induction of officers at the Coral Resort Estates Clubhouse on July 4, 2016.
PAG Eve Rahon gave the charging and RC Iligan Maria Cristina Pres. Delia Genobaten was the inducting officer.
The Rotaractors happily reported to their mother club their

accomplishments in the last Rotary year where President
Dan was awarded as outstanding president.
The Rotaract club inducted nine new members on the
same day, increasing their membership from 17 to 26.
Both the outgoing and incoming presidents promised to
work hand in hand for the Club’s success for this Rotary
year.

s. Sive? That’s missive. My desperate attempt at
being consistent with column titles—the one for
Gold Star Daily is Ms. Behavin’. I also considered
Ms. Place and Ms. Take for the GML. Ms. Sive had to win,
obviously.
The photo above was taken during the District Training
Assembly at Grand Caprice eons ago. Yes, that’s DG Jing
dela Calzada right beside me. This is the kind of pose that
evokes questions like, Friends mo? Hehe.
The photo, as you can see, is blurred. It was taken by
an iPhone 6 Plus. This was April 23, 2016 when the iPhone
7 and iPhone 7 Plus were merely items in the grapevine of
gadget speculations. I don’t know how these latest phones
in Apple’s neverending quest for better technology could
take photos, but cameras that are not attached to phones
will still remain the photographer’s better option if he wants
high-resolution images.
Still, there are blurred photos in this July GML, care of the
camera phones that took them. They’re acceptable for online versions that will never get into print. The GMLs for RY
2016-2017 will be printed quarterly, thus, by October, you’ll
receive printed copies for the first quarter of July to September. The rest of the quarterly printed issues will be released
next year in January, April and June. The in-between months
will be online.
Photos help in telling your story. They support the written
pieces for your Club’s accomplishments. Imagine reading a
newspaper with no photos—boring, eh?
The GML is like a newspaper, sans the bad news, a collection of the district’s accomplishments within a certain period, and it’s dependent on your contributions for I can’t be
present in all the projects and activities of the 44 clubs in the
district.
Rotary is about finding your niche, and it helps if you
have a member whose niche is writing. Please assign him

as your Club’s official writer, so he can help tell your story
by answering these simple questions: Who, What, When,
Where, Why, How. And, yes, he may go out of the box if he
wants to.
A high-resolution photo may tell a story by itself, if it has
a detailed caption. People do want to be properly acknowledged and a good caption makes that possible.
This July GML starts with the District Team Training Seminar in February 2016. It moves on to the Presidents-Elect
Training Seminar, the District Training Assembly, club inductions, then, the projects to celebrate the new Rotary year
with the theme “Dakilang Ina, Ikaw Na!” which was DG Jing’s
personal choice in line with her profession as an OB/GYN,
the Governor’s Addresses and Visits for Zone 3, the clubs’
other projects, the Family of Rotary, and the Information and
Communication Technology Training Sessions.
The raw data before layout had 53 items or pages.
They’re not exactly pages. I simply put a number before
each file so I could arrange them in some way, according to
Zone, Cluster, and Club as set in the district’s directory. The
final copy has 59 pages.
Gold Star Daily’s (GSD) Glenn Taneo is the guy behind
the layout. I became emotional upon seeing his first draft
and realizing he could read my mind, on how I wanted the
GML to look like. We’re communicating only through emails,
phone calls, and texts, thus, I’m so relieved that he understood what I meant, a simple newsletter with no frills that can
impart its message across to you.
It was GSD President PAG Bebotte Chu, one of the members of the District Public Relations Committee, who highly
recommended Glenn.
This is my third opportunity to be GML editor. The first
two were for PDG Bing Juarez and PDG Tess Navales. At
that time, Facebook (FB) wasn’t as busy as it is now. This
time, your FB posts helped fill-in the gaps for the pieces and
photos that were emailed to me.
Still, I’ve remained OC (obsessive compulsive) in gathering data, and the induction photos of 34 clubs out of the 44
clubs in the district are proof of that, thanks to emails, texts,
and FB.
But this is the first, last and only time I’m doing research
through FB. The rest of the GMLs from August 2016 onwards will be based on your emails.
There are no more deadlines for submission of contributions. Please email pieces and high-resolution photos with
captions as soon as each project is finished. You can do the
same for the Philippine Rotary Magazine, and your press
releases for Gold Star Daily and Mindanao Daily through the
