Definition of Terms
Index Crimes are crimes which are serious in nature and
which occur with sufficient frequency and regularity such
that they can serve as an index to a crime situation. We
consider the crimes of Murder, Homicide, Physical Injury,
Carnapping, Cattle Rustling, Robbery, Theft, and Rape as
Index Crimes.
Crime Rate is the number (or volume) of crime incidents in a
given period of time for every 100,000 inhabitants of an
area.
