It's challenging enough to build and
sustain an amateur arts community like
this one. None are music professionals,
many do not read music and some have no
prior experience. Moreover, one in three of
our members leaves after each season;
such fluidity in manpower makes it nigh
impossible to retain talent and skill, let
alone plot a developmental path. In many
ways, each year is a journey based on
uncertainty and blind faith. Anyone who
chooses to be a part of this group requires
nerves of steel, an infallible stomach and a
lion's heart.
So, once again, I offer my debt of gratitude
to all who have chosen to stay the journey
with us. My heart goes out to the countless
alumni who have come to our aid - by
writing for us, returning to sing with us,
helping us with the legwork or simply
attending our concerts.

Thank you, my partners-in-crime Jason
Ong and Julian Wong, for plying us with
quality music. Thanks also goes to our
families, friends and partners for
supporting our passion to make good
music.
We also have a fresh crop of supporters in
the form of women. Sandra Lim and Amni
Musfirah have tailored two dance medleys
for the Men while Ho Lian Ian makes her
conducting debut with us. Thank you for
believing in us and for your generous
contribution to our well-being.
But most of all, I would like to register my
thanks to the men of the Chorus. I stand
before you - my steely, steadfast lion hearts
humbled
by
your
generosity,
resourcefulness and resilience.

Can’t Stop the Feeling
"If Friday had a sound, it would be Justin
Timberlake's "Can't Stop the Feeling!", Lisa
Respers France of CNN Entertainment. This
up-tempo number with pop, disco, soul and
funk influences was always going to be an
instant hit. With the repeated refrain telling
you to keep dancing, this song is an invitation to lose ourselves in music and joy and a
summertime anthem to earthly pleasures.

天烏烏 Tin Oh-oh
“Dark Skies”
First documented in 1917 in a collection of
Taiwanese
folksongs,
天烏烏
is
a
much-performed, well-recorded pop song
that began as a nursery rhyme in the southern
Min dialect. Set in a rural cottage against an
impending storm, the tale of an elderly couple
opens with the husband going out with his
hoe to harvest yam. Instead, he catches a
pond loach and, on returning to cook the fish,
launches into an argument: he wants it done
salty but his wife prefers it mild. In the end,
they break the very pot for cooking it.
Although its 'wah-ha-ha' refrain makes light of
the domestic disaster, its proverbial
significance has never been in doubt,
especially for the communities stretching
from south-eastern China to South-east Asia:
天烏烏 欲落雨
[Dark skies forewarn of a storm]
More recently, this opening line was revived in
the pop hit 天黑黑, recorded by Singapore's
own Stefanie Sun.

Bond / Mission Impossible Medley
We have chosen the James Bond and
Mission Impossible theme tunes which,
whilst completely instrumental, are instantly
recognisable and as such are anthems in
their own right. The James Bond theme has
been used in every Bond film since Dr No
was released in 1962 and it’s opening few
bars of “Dum di di dum dum” immediately
transport you to the exciting and sexy world
of international espionage. On the other
hand, the Theme from Mission Impossible is
widely regarded as one of TV’s best theme
tunes and has been reimagined numerous
times, most notably by the band U2 for the
1996 movie. We hope you enjoy our homage
to the spy film genre as we present you our
own a cappella mash-up of these two
masterpieces that have often been copied,
parodied but never equalled.
