Some Information about Civil Engineering 
For students who have interest in the design and construction 
of natural or physical build environment, civil engineering is 
the disciple you should go for so as to prove your ability.  Also 
known as military engineering, civil engineering is the second 
oldest professional engineering degree.  
What civil engineering exactly is?
The   field   of   civil   engineering   deals   with   the   planning,   designing   and   creativity   of 
buildings and other physical structures. From road and building constructions to river 
and township planning and construction, every physical concrete structure comes under 
the branch of civil engineering. 
In other words ­ “Civil Engineering is the art of directing the power in the nature for the  
use and convenience of man. Moreover, it is the art to make the developed world around 
Course & Duration
Students   can   choose   civil   engineering,   once   they   have   completed   their   secondary   or 
senior secondary examination. Well, the academic criterion of civil engineering is based 
on 3 courses/programs as given below:

Diploma courses ­ polytechnic diploma of 3 years duration.

UG courses ­  B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) degree in Civil engineering, of 4 
years duration.

PG courses ­  M.Tech (Master of Technology) degree in Civil engineering, of 2 
years duration.

Beside these, research courses ­ PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) degree in Civil engineering 
are also available. Civil engineering is a vast field of technical education, divided into 
various specializations after the completion of the B.Tech degree.

Diploma courses:  After the completion of 10th standard, students are only eligible for 
diploma courses. 
UG courses:  After the completion of 12th standard, students are eligible to pursue the 
UG (B.Tech) degree in civil engineering.
PG courses: B.Tech in civil engineering is required by students who want to pursue the 
PG (M.Tech) degree in civil engineering.

Students after completing B. Tech in Civil Engineering, have job opportunities in all the 
sectors – public, private and government.
