History:
South Collegiate opened in 1922 and moved to the
Tecumseh Ave location in 1928.
Academics:
South offers comprehensive course loads in many
subjects including Business, Dance and Drama,
English, Geography, History, Math, Music, Physical
Education, Science, Technology, Arts, Moderns and
Family Studies. South is home to the “Academy
Program” for gifted Grade 9 and 10 students.

James A. Giffen Memorial Field
This natural grass field, constructed in 2007 includes an in ground sprinkler
system, a paved track, bleachers as well as NFL style uprights back dropped by
an amazing view of the Old South neighbourhood.
The adjacent parking deck offers excellent sight lines to spectators and the
electronic scoreboard is visible from any seat in the house.
South Football players enter the field via the parking deck tunnel thru the crowd
of South fans.
The field was funded by South alumni Matt Giffen and named in memory of his
father, James. A Giffen.

Mike Stenning
Head Coach
South Head Coach Mike Stenning enters his 15th season at South. Since
becoming the Head Coach in 2004, Coach Stenning has lead the Lions to
multiple playoff appearances including 3 straight trips to the “A” tier Final
4 and a trip to the 2015 TVRA Central Finals.
The former Head Coach at Westminster High School, Coach Stenning has
served as both OC and DC of the South Lions over his 15 seasons. In 2016,
Coach Stenning will focus on Special Teams as well as overseeing both O
and D units.
The 3 time Letterman and multi-year starter (OL) at Kent State University,
a member of the NCAA Division 1 in Ohio, Coach Stenning graduated with a
Bachelor of Science Degree before attending teachers college.
Coach Stenning also serves as the South A.D. in addition to coaching
Hockey, Track & Field and Tennis at South.
Coach Stennings wife, Mrs. Stenning is also a teacher at South Collegiate.
Coach Stenning has a daughter, Kate, an exceptional hockey player in her
own right and a son, Joel who is currently a starter at DE for the South
Football team.
Joe Robinson
Junior Head Coach
Coach Joe Robinsons career at South continues as the Junior Head
Coach and Defensive Coordinator.
Serving as one of London High School Footballs longest tenured
coaches, Coach Robinson is instrumental in developing the South
Football culture, beginning the day players arrive on the campus of
South Collegiate.
On route to capturing back to back City Championships in 2014 and
2015, the Coach Robinson lead South Jr. Defence allowed a league
low 9.8 points per game in 6 regular season contests.
Off the field, Coach Robinson serves as the History Department head
and teaches a vast array of Canadian history courses.
A proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces, Coach Robinson is
also heavily involved in community based football with both the
Forest City Thunderbirds and London Minor Football Association.
