Cant say I am keen on Facebook as a medium to be honest. As you say though if something were to happen where would
everyone go?
Ive toyed with this for a while but was never sure if it was a good idea but it would take me 10 minutes to set up a new
section of Motorhome Fruitcakes dedicated to serious and not so serious motorhomefacts type debate. I think some
members were against the idea but mainly they dont remember what they said ten minutes ago so who knows. I think a lot
of you are registered there even if you dont post and in times where FACTS has gone down or members have been locked
out hey have posted on there for help. Let me make it clear I have no ambition to grow that forum even though we are
always pleased to see new members but would be happy for it to be a bolt hole should there be a problem here and to be fair
its pretty slick, hardly ever breaks and is of course free. I have always looked at it as a breakaway but kind of sister
alternative forum to this one. Not in competition at all, in fact quite the opposite.

I think you could set up an altogether separate MoHo site Barfy (MoHos are us) Fruitcakes isn't for all of us.

Senior Member

Or anyone needing help could also use MHOwners quite a few of us on there now, and it's run sensibly, funded by a couple of
unobtrusive ads.

Could do but it would be far easier just to add a serious section but there are pluses and minuses for both. The main issue
being you cannot be all things to all men / women. The one thing Ive learned about running a forum is you cannot please
everyone. What one person thinks is a great idea there will be others that think the opposite. There is much more to it as
well than just setting up a free forum. Fruitcakes has three mods including myself (we are all members on here) but its a
small forum, we know nearly all the members well and its pretty much self policed (not that there is much policing
).
A forum that grows and has lots of members is a different beast though as we have seen over the years on here. If its a
success then it needs properly looking after which means time and commitment and therefore some kind of income for the
owner or admin staff as it starts to incur costs and hours of dedicated time. Not trying to be negative in fact I may be up for
doing something but just trying to point out that its not as straight forward as you might think.

I think you're one of the few people who could build a decent Moho site, but I'd not go near Fruitcakes.

Why spend so much time and effort criticising Fruitcakes Kev? You've been clear in the past that it's not for you but it's
Barry's site and I thought you and he were friendly enough at least for you not to denigrate it at every opportunity.

I am a member of FC and it does fulfil a role so I will not knock it, it is NOT MHF and my wish would be for MHF to be
properly resourced, improved and run for the members (and by the members?).
In the same way that I do not criticise Fun, Owners, Wild, OAL or anywhere else, there is room for all and as MH use is a
growing leisure industry it is quite possible for all to develop together.

as

that way we will have a bigger voice when things like MH bans are proposed - as has already happened in many parts of the
UK, often as a response to alleged overstaying of welcome and the mess allegedly left behind (but possibly also due to local
site owners trying to protect their over-priced pitches).
We all enjoy one thing - using our Motorhomes, let's all work together not against each other.

A separate section devoted to motorhome matters, and not much (if anything) else, accessible perhaps?? by one of two
buttons on the Home page, plus a "Remember me" log on for those who always want to go straight there.
Your Mods could be given a simple tool to move any non MH threads to the other section, and apart from newcomers,
everyone else would soon get the message. If you found that any idiots insisted on posting aggro in the MH section, boot
them off the forum for three days, then a fortnight, then "On yer bike mate!" with no appeal, or whingeing from their mates
about how unfair it is!!
It could work, and you would soon attract a lot of members from on here if you provided what they want - which

I've forgotten which issue(s) we were trying to fix by considering a move elsewhere but if it was that newcomers to MHF
might be put off by bickering outside the subs bar would the same not apply to Fruitcakes? I don't think I've ever visited but
from what I gather from comments on here it might be a bit strong for newbies to negotiate to the 'proper' stuff?

No need to negotiate to the 'proper' stuff - the "lively" section need not even exist if they didn't want it to!
