TELEVISION VIEWING TV PROGRAM Part #1
1. View a Prime Time (8:00-11:00 PM) NEW (went on-air September, 2016 or later) on
a Canadian Network or Canadian Station. (Students – be very careful that you are
viewing this program on a Canadian station/network). The program does not have to
be a “Canadian program but it must be aired on a Canadian station. Canadian
networks or stations include CTV, Global, CBC, CTV2, CITY-TV, or any of their
affiliates. Your viewing must take place between W/O September 26tht and W/O
October 17th. Sporting events or “One Time Only Specials” are not acceptable
viewing. Go to the following web sites to select the program you choose to watch.
CTV.ca, Globaltv.com, Citytv.com, or CBC.ca.

Once you have selected the new program and have watched it at least once, please
provide the following information:

a) Name of Program
b) Time, Day and Date of Program viewing
c) Canadian Network or station name that you viewed the program on.
d) Synopsis (overview) of the Program in general, that is: what is the overall
premise of the show, and who are the main characters and how do they
relate to each other within the programs premise.
e) Synopsis of the Specific Episode that you viewed.
f) Participating Advertisers – in the program that you viewed.
g) Identify the type of audience you feel this program may appeal to. Would it be
mostly men, women, adults, teen, etc… and explain why
(give sufficient reasons) you feel this is the case. (hint: some of the
advertisers may give you a clue as to who this program is appealing to)
TELEVISION HISTORY IN CANADA. Part #2
1. The second part of this assignment is a written report on the Canadian television
landscape. Your research should answer the basics of the medium. A) How does
Television Work? B) How are Canadians affected by Television? C) What kind of
editorial bias’s are there in Canadian television? D) Give a detailed report on the
ownership structure of the major Canadian TV broadcasters, ie: who owns what
and what other media outlets are they involved in? E) What are the regulatory
bodies such as the CRTC doing for/ to the Canadian TV industry?
Your full report should be at a minimum of 2000 words. ( part 1 =1000 and part
2=1000). Be sure to source you information via bibliography attached to the end of
the report.
