RE: Johnson Drive ballot measure & next steps

Signatures have been reviewed by City Clerk and delivered to the ROV. The ROV has up to 60
days to verify the signatures. Upon certification of the signatures, Council has the option to
adopt the ordinance or schedule the matter for a vote. August 12th is the absolute deadline to
place the matter on the November ballot.
I will have more clarity regarding timeline once the Council schedules the vote or adopts the
ordinance…likely on July 21st, assuming certification is received by the ROV by that timeline. At
that council meeting, I will seek formal guidance regarding the disposition of the EDZ (pause
until measure is determined by vote of the public or continue processing the EDZ regardless of
the measure’s qualification for November, etc.)…
There is no support from the Council majority at this point regarding a second Councilsponsored competing measure. I will know more in the coming weeks.
While I don’t mind meeting with you, Mike and others, please know that the dust needs to
settle a bit and I need to start active discussions with the Council regarding strategy leading up
to July 21st. This will occur starting next week. I will have Lisa schedule a meeting two weeks
out with the group.

Subject: Johnson Drive ballot measure & next steps

I am back from vacation and Mike Dobrota just gave me a call. The two of us would like to
either schedule a call with you and key staff (Gerry, Tina, new City Attorney) or a meeting, so
we can map out next steps.
Based on my call back on June 3 with Gerry, he was preparing to put the EDZ on the July 13

Planning Commission agenda. Is that still in play? Costco and Nearon would support that
approach, by the way, as long as we keep the 2nd reading of the City Council until after the
general election.
We have a lot of other questions regarding items such as the ballot measure, the potential
competing ballot measure, the cost sharing agreement, etc, but we'll reserve those questions for
the time being until we hear from you about scheduling a call or meeting.
