This is not a tutorial on how to play, there
are plenty of books easily available in printed
form or on the Internet.
This booklet came after I met a new player
at a ‘Pub Slow & Easy Session’
The guy had only to that point tried to learn
on his own by ear, but he wanted to learn how
to read the dot’s so to give him access to
thousands of tunes out there.
I printed out a couple of tunes for him to try
along with a keyboard layout showing the
different notes against a stave.

I also took the deliberate decision to, “as
normal “show the Key signature . I have
also put the pitch name in the note-heads and
also show which notes are accidentals, this is
more of a {Brain/Finger }reminder that
something in the tune is slightly different.

Using this method it also allows me
to make the music in larger fonts than
the norm. It also helps people who
have difficulty in reading due to any
visual problems they may have.

So now I have come to the end of this first
effort of trying to help new players of a
BOXx to learn the dots.
I have as you may have noted from my first
effort, I have stayed with putting the tunes in
alphabetical order, rather than try and put them
in order of difficulty, Is it not more fun to
sometimes just fall upon a tune and think that’s
something I would like to try.
