CREATING STRANGENESS BY COMBINING THE CLASSICAL LEGS, INSPIRED BY BUGATTI’S CHAIRS, WITH A
MODERN ACRYLIC CUBE. THE CUBE IS THE LAMP SHADE
THAT IS SUPPORTED BY THREE LEGS. THE IDEA BEHIND
USING THREE LEGS WAS TO CREATE ASYMMETRY WITHIN THE DESIGN.

THE DESIGN IS BASED ON THE EYE OF HORUS
SYMBOL, A POWERFUL SYMBOL OF PROTECTION.
THE CHEST IS CUSTOMIZED TO HOLD VALUABLE
BELONGINGS. THESE BELONGINGS WOULD EITHER HAVE MONETARY OR PERSONAL VALUES,
PROTECTED BY THE EYE OF HORUS. THE CHEST
IS A CYLINDER CONTAINER THAT HAS A SHAPE
OF AN EYE.

THREE DIMENSIONAL DESIGN
CREATING TWO NEW SHAPES AND ORGANIZING
THEM INTO A THREE DIMENSION OBJECT.

ADAPTABLE RELIEF
DESIGN STUDENTS, THROUGH THEIR DAILY ROUTINE IN DESIGN, ARE CONSTANTLY ADAPTING TO
THE NEEDS OF THE PROGRAM. THIS DESIGN CONSTANTLY ADAPTS TO THE STUDENTS NEEDS, ALLOWING THEM TO BE IN CONTROL OF THEIR SPACE. FLEXIBILITY WOULD CREATE MORE OPTIONS IN
STUDENTS’ NEEDS AND WOULD LEAD THIS DESIGN TO DE STIJL PRINCIPALS.
MOVABLE WALLS ACHIEVE A SENSE OF PRIVACY IN AN OPEN SPACE. PLACING WALL PANELS OVER
THE WINDOWS, CREATES OPTIONS IN LETTING IN AND BLOCKING OUT THE SUNLIGHT THROUGH THE
SPACE. EXTENDING THE WALLS AND THE ROOFTOPS TO THEIR SURROUNDING, CREATES AN INDOOR
OUTDOOR RELATION.

DESIGNING A SCULPTURE IN RESPOND TO THE SITE

THE SITE IS LOCATED IN LUMPINI PARK IN BANGKOK, THAILAND.
THE TWO LANDSCAPE AREAS LOCATED ON THE SOUTHEAST
ENTRANCEOF THE PARK ARE WHERE THE SCULPTURE
HAS TO BE INSTALLED.

BASED ON THE THAI TRADITION, AS PEOPLE
ENTER OR EXIT THE PARK, THEY SHOW THEIR
RESPECT TO THE STATUE OF RAMA VI, BY PUTTING THEIR HANDS TOGETHER AND BOWING
DOWN THEIR HEAD OR BY GETTING DOWN ON
THEIR KNEES IN A WAY THAT THEIR HANDS
AND HEADS ARE TOUCHING THE GROUND.

SECOND PHASE
A FACILITY TO EDUCATE AND HELP
THE HOMELESS TO GET BACK TO
THEIR COMMUNITY.
THE FACILITY IS LOCATED BELOW THE GROUND. A
RAISED PLATFORM THAT HOUSES THE SCULPTURES
ON TOP ALSO ACTS AS A ROOF FOR THE STRUCTURE
BELOW. THE FIRST TWO SCULPTURES ARE USED
FOR THE ENTRANCE AND THE EXIST.

CREATING A NEW DEVELOPMENT IN RELATION TO THE HISTORICAL BUILDINGS
IS A GREAT CHALLENGE IN THIS PROJECT. GENERATING A BALANCE BETWEEN
THE NEW RETAIL DEVELOPMENT ALONG THE SOUTH TACOMA WAY AND THE
SINGLE FAMILY HOUSING ON THE EAST IS ANOTHER FACTOR THAT NEEDED TO
BE CONSIDERED IN THE DESIGN.

RETAIL DEVELOPMENT
