SING-ALONG
Book

LYRICS

Hello, hello,
I got somethin’ to say, and I’m thinking out loud: I’ve found my friends.
The years start coming and they don’t stop coming; this long time passing
is something I can’t change. We all went to the university, all around the
world, running around trying everything new– doesn’t anybody stay in one place
anymore? How many roads must we all walk down without ever knowing the way? I
can’t tell where the journey will end, but now I’m five hundred miles from my home.
For all the places I have been, I’m no place without you.
All you have to do is close your eyes, and think of childhood friends and the dreams
we had, though some have changed. Sunlight through the trees in summer, and
music still on MTV, a time to laugh. Sympathy and trust abounding, the sun was
shining, I’m positive. Our memories, they can be inviting. Now I’m hanging on a
moment of truth, a dreamer of yesterday and days before, no end and no beginning.
I’m free falling– there ain’t no other way. I’ll get you anything, my friend, because
there’s no other superstar. I’m glad I didn’t die before I met you.
How do I get myself back to the place where you said, “You’ve got a
friend”? I’m trying to be, I want to be, and long to be. You brighten
up for me all of my days. I feel the love; let the whole world feel it.
--Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you got ’til it’s gone? I think
about you day and night– no one really wants to be alone. When you’re missing home,
it’s hard to get by just upon a smile.
It goes like this: late at night I toss and turn, haunted by all my dreams. It keeps me
awake. There’s a shadow hanging over me, and every now and then I fall apart. The
years go by, these days get so long, and I’ve got nothing to do. I know something’s
wrong. It may be raining, but there’s a rainbow above; you know these lines of
lightning mean we’re never alone.
A voice was chanting as the fog was lifting, a voice that was dark like tinted glass:
“I’ll be there for you ’cause you’re there for me, too.” You lift my heart up even when
you’re not around. There’s still a light that shines on me, because I feel a glow just
thinking of you, and it’s bringing me out the dark. I get by with a little help from my
friends. Waiting for you, our spirits long to be made whole. There’s an old voice in my
head, saying it’s gonna be alright. Well, I want that.
I knew I wouldn’t forget you. I always thought that I’d see you again. We were bound
to get together, but that hasn’t happened for the longest time.
I don’t want no candy, I don’t need no toy! All you need is love.
---

Do you remember when we used to sing? I never will forget those nights in the glow
of those twinkling lights. It’s late in the evening, and there we were, all in one place–
the place I belong! Been a long time but I’m back in town, finally glad that you’re
here by my side. Everyone else in the room can see it, the smiles returning to their
faces. Here we are again, I feel the chemicals kickin’ in! See the lights surrounding
you. Does it almost feel like nothing changed at all?
Couldn’t help myself so I walked up and said, “What are we
waiting for? Come on everybody, I say now let’s play a game!
You better move, you better dance.” (Don’t ask me why– don’t
know.) Just go ahead now, it’s waiting there for you.
We can dance all night, and that’s the way it should be. Now we
all get to sing until you feel at home. Such a lovely place any time
of year. Don’t try to fight the very, very extraordinary feeling, bound by
wild desire.
And you’re back from outer space; did you make it to the Milky Way? I missed you so
bad, but all of the bad feelings have disappeared.
Hey, what’s that sound? Listen to the music of the moment people dance and sing.
Party people all around, I love it! I won’t have to cry no more. Thought that I would
be alone forever, but I won’t be tonight. I thank my lucky stars to be living here
today. The songs on the radio are okay, but we sang along to the start of forever. Sing
us a song tonight to the sound of the breezes that blow on a boat with billowed sail.
Tonight, I’m gonna have myself a real good time, I can’t
hide– I came to dance! I could not stop the tune now pulsing
through my veins. In every game you play, let’s join forces.
It doesn’t matter who you’re rooting for, we’re on each
other’s team.
Then you cocked your head to the side and said, “I’m never
gonna catch my breath.” You really know how to dance! We
might be laughing a bit too loud, but I don’t care, I love it.
I was soaring ever higher, singing joy to the world. Believe
me when I say that I got I got a song to sing all over this
land, space songs on a spider web. Singing a song, humming
a song, singing a song… who would blame them? The air
was full of sound! You see, it’s easy. I couldn’t lie, I’m on top
of the world. We’ll take it higher, but I won’t fall.
Let’s stay up all night– tomorrow’s gonna come to soon, and
tomorrow I’ll miss you.
---

Before I let you get away, tell me, is it love that brings you here? This bond between
us can’t be broken; there isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for you. You make me happy
when skies are grey, bright colors shining, wonderful and new. Every moment spent
with you is a moment I treasure and it’s getting better all the time. We’re just one big
family.
I might be young, but I ain’t stupid: it isn’t too hard to see this
is the dawning of the rest of our lives. We’ll never feel bad
anymore.
But you will never know just how happy I can be. You’re here
with me and I’m here with you, there’s no place I’d rather be.
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world. Everything
will bring a chain of love– I hope you had the time of your life.
--Oh no! We gotta go, we have to turn and go away. You know I can’t believe it, and
how I wish it wasn’t so. Say it ain’t so, I will not go! What happens now? Do you want
more? I hate when things are over and I just can’t turn and walk away.
Needless to say, there never seems to be enough time. I
won’t cry. No, I won’t shed a tear— life goes on. I’m gonna
ride on, and it’s all because of the hope of a new tomorrow.
Now I look at the night, and it don’t seem so lonely; just look
at the stars, look how they shine! Hold on to me as we go
into the light of a dark black night. I’ll love you long after
you’re gone, thinking about the good things to come; I’ll
always be your friend.
I don’t want to go home right now, but I’ll be alright. There’s always tomorrow. The
best is yet to be.
With love from me to you.
