Over the last decades our speciality has witnessed an admirable
effort to consolidate its scientific bases and systematic revisions
have represented the “swan song” of the basis for most of our clinical
protocols. Thanks to this, today’s clinical periodontology is supported
by a rigorous order that is reasoned and corroborated, under what has
been termed “evidence-based practice”. Protected by this premise,
we will address aspects of diagnosis (supported by the focus of new
technologies) and we will revise the procedures that allow us to improve
the prognosis of teeth with advanced periodontal pathologies.
Furthermore, we face the challenge of starting to provide an equally
structured response to clinical problems derived from situations in
which we do not yet have such a corroborated scientific rigour, such
as the treatment of peri-implantitis and the regeneration of vertical
bone defects in the anterior sector. In addition, the evident change of
the health-care model that we have seen in our profession obliges us to
improve our treatment plans from multidisciplinary perspectives, which
connect to the resources of orthodontics and restorative dentistry in its
aesthetic dimension.
Nonetheless, we seek to outline in the congress an epilogue in terms of
our most solid arguments, but with the courage of opening a prologue
related to clinical issues that are becoming more important every day.
To do this, we offer the framework of a city such as Málaga: an idyllic
environment in which urban changes, cultural events, and the range of
artistic and gastronomic choice have succeeded in making our city one
of the most attractive tourist destinations in the south of Europe. We
very much wish to enjoy this meeting together.

We look forward to seeing you.
