MINIGAMES OVERVIEW 1 - JANUARY 2, 2017
I t has come to the attention in recent weeks that the Minigames server could use some much
needed updates. Players have expressed concern about many problems that will be addressed here.
A quick overview of the problems go as follows:
• Fixing course/multigame ratios on the server
• Repetitive maps (and easy ones)
• Decent amounts of toxicity among players
• RTV System
• Opaque Relations with staff and players
• Introducing lower map time
• Choke and SV problems when server gets populated
THE PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS
FIXING COURSE/MULTIGAME RATIOS ON THE SERVER
After all of the people I talked to, it seems that course maps are overtaking the server and the
players are not happy. To fix this, I would suggest adding in multigame maps that are as least
repetitive as possible, or offer a broad amount of choices. This issue will be addressed further in
points down below.
REPETITIVE AND EASY MAPS
Many of the skilled players on the server are starting to not enjoy the server as much. Course
maps are becoming too easy and the easy maps like Cyber get voted over and over. To rectify,
add some harder course maps to help out the veterans of the server. It is understandable that
course maps are meant to be relaxing and not be taken seriously, but some players who join want
a challenge. It is an easy problem to fix, and you guys have a good amount of map feedback from
previous months in the minigames board which can help you. Obviously you can’t stop players for
voting the map they want, but there should be adequate amounts of each type of map on the server.
Regarding repetitiveness, I propose some change to the RTV plugin that will keep selected maps
out of queue for at least an hour.
DECENT AMOUNTS OF TOXICITY AMONG PLAYERS
This one can be fixed with some appropriate administration skills, however it is bound to happen. Just make sure your admins are trained and prepared to deal with toxic individuals. Make
sure they have confidence in their actions and they think before the act. If you guys need some
help with how to administrate a server, Mentoring does more than just help problem players.
Maps don’t get RTV’d as frequently as some would like, reducing the amount needed could fix
this quite easily. I would suggest having it at sixty percent requirement.
OPAQUE RELATIONS WITH STAFF AND PLAYERS
Although, this particular criticism came from a single player, I believe it should be addressed
as he is a veteran to the server. His name will remain anonymous for now unless he wants to reveal
himself. He has suggested lots of maps and contacted divisional staff about issues I am presenting
to you today, and seen very little change. There is change to be made here because every single
player I talked to had something they didn’t like about the server. Actively make changes in the
server, test new things out, it doesn’t hurt the server if some people want it. If you are unsure about
changing something, ask the CS:GO leads, that is why they are there. Make sure you are actively
checking your forum sub-section as well, because recently I noticed, there is a decent amount of
players posting there.
INTRODUCING LOWER MAP TIME
If balancing the map ratios isn’t as much of a fix that is needed, lowering the current time a map
stays active would do the trick. I have noticed that there is currently an ongoing thread about this
exact issue, but it seems nothing has been done about or the Multigame community hasn’t been
made aware. Lowering the map time can be nothing but good, unless you lower it too far. It has
been suggested that it goes down to 25 minutes, which is more than reasonable, a lower time might
even be an order. I suggest testing different times in 2 week intervals and see what the players
CHOKE AND SV PROBLEMS WHEN MAPS GET POPULATED
This is an issue you should be bringing to Balon if it does persist. Things I would log is which
maps it takes place on, how many people were on, etc. Players have reported that the lag is only
enough to be annoying, not enough to entirely depopulate the server, however. I suggest asking
your players throughout the week if they notice any lag.
