Inspired Youth’s 9th year of social enterprise has been hugely successful. As
we enter our decade year we reflect on an incredible year of social projects
that put lived human experiences at the heart of the creative process.
In 2016 Inspired Youth were shortlisted for a national award for outstanding
contribution to our community at the National Diversity awards. We have
presented at National Conferences, spoken in Westminster alongside young
people from Yorks Children in Care Council Show Me That I Matter. We also
shared national recognition with young people with the “Most Inspirational
Campaign” for the Aspire To More project. These achievements underpin the
success of our year but we have worked with a range of other organisations
raising awareness and challenging stigma on a range of issues from
homelessness to projects that reduce loneliness and isolation for people living
with dementia.
We are proud to celebrate 10 years of story-telling through poetry, street arts,
Media and film. We specialize in social projects powered by people at the
heart of an issue, delivered in partnership with likeminded organisations.
2016 has been driven by those principles and a passion to make a real
difference in the world. We have created a series of powerful, journey driven
experiences culminating in challenging and influential campaigns.
From foster recruitment campaigns to positive anti-stigma projects our work
enriched by the best professional artists in every field.
A decade of life experience, changed perspectives, challenged stereotypes
and tackling stigma. 10 years of awareness, campaigning, skills building,
personal development and most of all 100s and 1000s of raised aspirations.
We are what we do. This is our tenth year. Dream bigger.

Aspire To More
Aspire To More is a care leaver role model project funded by a Joseph Rowntree Foundation
Small Grant. The project was delivered in partnership with Show Me That I Matter (SMTIM),
Yorks Children in Care Council (CICC) and was designed to raise aspirations and tackle
stigma facing children and young people in care. The participants interviewed 6 successful
care leaver role models from different backgrounds to explore what challenges they faced
during their care journey and how they overcome barriers to become successful in life. In
addition to the interviews, which were published online, the group created 6 positive posters
featuring care leaver role models using positive quotes from their interviews. The project was
shared online gaining incredible traction while the posters were printed for distribution
throughout York. Huge A1 and A0 prints were produced and feature as a legacy of the
project within the City Of York Council’s West Offices.
‘Aspire To More’ gained national recognition and national media coverage, going on to win
2 national awards including a Kids Count “Most Inspiration Youth Campaign” award at
Westminster, a best poster award at the National Care Leavers Benchmark Forum
conference and a shortlisting in 2 categories at the York Pride Awards 2016. The project was
discovered by The Department For Education who shared it virally. The project even
managed to become the most read article of the week on The Guardian Social Care
website!
The aspire to more website achieved an amazing 21,231 hits to date via the site from over
10,000 unique visitors from all over the world.

Moving Forward Together
"Moving Forward Together" highlights the stigma and prejudice facing the Gypsy Roma
Traveler Community in York. This film was made in partnership with York Travellers Trust to
highlight the challenges around access to education training and employment for the Gypsy
Roma Traveller community.
The film was showcased at the University of York St John as part of York Travellers Trust’s

“Moving Forward Together” Film

The Edge Of Care
The Edge of Care explores 'Right Home', an innovative project supporting a range of
supported accommodation and early intervention services designed to prevent youth
homelessness and support children on the edge of care. Produced in partnership with
Calderdale Council as part of the governments Innovation Fund.
The film was screened to Ministers and civil servants at a Government conference event in

We’re Human Too
We’re Human Too is a powerful photography and film project designed to show the human
side of people experiencing homelessness. The project, funded by a JRF small grant, was
delivered in partnership with York Arc Light homeless charity and Scott Akoz Photography.
The work focused on presenting the humans behind the stigma and stereotypes of
homelessness. ‘We’re Human Too’ aims to raise awareness and help to explore and
understand the perspectives of real people who have fallen into homelessness. The project
uses positive portraiture photography and intimate storytelling to present people
experiencing homelessness in a new light.
The films were launched at York St John University to an audience of professionals working
with people experiencing homelessness. The project was featured by Big Issue North where it

We’re Human Too was designed to challenge the way people view homelessness.

Sleep On It
“Sleep On It” is a film shaped and developed by young people in partnership with
Calderdale Council to promote their short stay service.
"Sleep on It" is Calderdale Council’s Short Stay Service designed to support families who
might be at risk of breaking down. The risk of breakdown doesn’t have to be immediate and
it could be due to lots of different issues.
Sleep On It works with families where there are worries that if things don’t get better or
change, the situation might break down in the future.
The film was produced by putting young people using the service at the heart of the
creative process and was designed to raise awareness of the service. The film is being used
as a resource and training tool to share with professionals and agencies working with young
people across Calderdale. The film creates a powerful insight into the lives of the young
people accessing “Sleep On It” services and explores the positive impact it is having on their

Connecting Lives Through Life Stories
"Connecting Lives Through Life Stories" highlights the positive impact and importance of life
story work on the lives of people living with dementia in York. It is a community initiative
designed to help to reduce loneliness and isolation.
The film provides an insight into the benefits and impact of life stories work, both on the lives
of the residents of Woolnough House and also the student volunteers who dedicate their
time to building relationships with local residents. This film was made in partnership with
Woolnough House Care Home, Minds in Motion Charity and City of York Council. Funded by

Foster Me Campaign
The Foster Me Campaign was commissioned by Kirklees & Leeds Council in partnership with
Foster Focus with the aim of encouraging new foster carers for teenagers in Kirklees and
Leeds. The campaign was shaped through consultation with children in care and existing
foster carers working with teenagers. The campaign was designed to highlight how the
benefits of fostering a teenager outweigh the challenges. The campaign, which consisted of
3 short films and a poster series, was hugely successful and was featured on ITV News
amongst other accolades.
