History of Telugu films
Raghupathi Venkaiah Naidu called as father of Telugu cinema. Since 1909, he
was involved in Indian cinema's history by producing short films and promoting
the Film work. Bhishma Pratigna was the first telugu silent film produced by
Raghupathi venkaiah naidu in 1921 and on other hand, the religious films like
Nandanar, Matsyavatar and Gajendra Moksham was produced by Yaragudipati
Varada rao and R.S.Prakash Rao.
Bhakta prahlada was the first Telugu movie with full length audible dialogue
produced by H.M.Reddy on september 15 1931 which is also called as Telugu
film day. He also directed the first Talkie movie Kalidas in 1931. Savitri was the
first Indian Telugu film produced by East India Company in 1933 with a budget
of 75 thousand. The story was based on Mylavaram Bala Bharathi Samajam,
which is a popular stage play. Savitri film was directed by Chittajallu Pullaiah,
the father of Telugu theatre movement. The film received Honourary diploma at
Venice film festival. The first Major Commercial success film was Lavakusa
directed by Parupalli Subbarao in the year 1934.
Seetarama Jananam, a mythological movie directed by Ghantasala Balaramayya
under his home production and the film introduced Akkineni Nageshwara rao to
the film industry in 1944. Patala Bhairavi movie was the first South Indain film
released in 1951. The films like Malliswari, Patala Bhairavi, Mayabazar,
Devadasu, Narthanasala, Maa bhoomi, Maro charithra, Sagara sangamam,
Shakarabharanam, Siva movies are listed among the 100 greatest Indian films of
all time. In south india, the first film studio Durga Cinetone was built in
Rajahmundry by Nidamarthi Surayya in 1936.
Film Industry in Hyderabad
Earlier, the Telugu film industry was in Chennai. At the time of N.T.Rama Rao's
political reign, The Telugu film industry was completely shifted from Chennai
to Hyderabad. After that Akkineni Nageshwara Rao relocated to Hyderabad and
established Annapurna Studios. The film Producers D.Ramanaidu and Ramoji
rao developed Film studios for film production and employment. Annapurna
International School of Film and Media and Ramanaidu film school are some of
the largest film schools in India.
Ramoji film city is the worlds largest Integrated film city established by Ramoji
Rao in the year 1996. The film city is developed in 1500 acres of land and is
located in Outer ring road phase 2 of Hyderabad, Telanagana which is one of the
most popular tourist place contains both Natural and Artificial attractions
including park in Telangana.
Nandi awards is the most pretigious award ceremony for excellence of acting in
Telugu film, Telivision and Theatre which was presented annually at Lalitha
Kala Thoranam in Hyderabad.
Commercial success films
Chiranjeevi's Gharana mogudu movie is the first telugu movie that gross over
10 crore at Box office which was directed by K.Raghavendra Rao. Bommarillu
was released world wide in 2006 with 72 prints and after getting success, the
number of reels increased to 100. The movie collected 5 crore collections in the
first week in India. The film Pokiri was released in 2006 got 2 years of
commercial success and has been remade in Tamil, Hindi and Kannada. The
socio fantasy film Magadheera was release in the year 2009 and got worldwide
share of 78.1 crore.
The films like Dookudu, Eaga have each earn collections more than 100 crore at
World wide Box office. Recently the Film Bahubali- The beginning became the
third Highest Grossing Indian film of all time within India and also globally.
The Telugu film industry has produced the largest number of films that beats
even Bollywood in the years of 2005, 2006, 2008, 2014 and holds Guinness
world record for largest film production in the world. About 245 Telugu films,
