Project title: Nanostructured microoptical components - towards new functionalities and applications
Project description: In this project we explore the application potential of nanostructured microoptical components,
based on the effective medium theory. The patent protected technology of these elements is a generic which allows
to develop several kinds of optical components with a strong application potential from telecommunications and
optical fibre sensors to 3D imaging and single photon cameras. Use of modified low-cost optical fibre drawing
technology allows to develop nanostructured media with the designed effective optical properties as a refractive
index gradient, wave front correction or polarization transformation. The nanostructured components have a form
of plano-parallel plates and their optical properties are determined only by the inner nanostructure distribution. Due
to the flat surface, large refractive index gradients and small dimension components can be easily, low-costly and
robustly integrated with standard optical fibres and other passive and active optical components.
Key responsibilities include:

Modeling of nanostructured microoptical components
Characterization of nanostructured microoptical components and development of demonstrators
Glass development or development of nanostructured microoptical components
Collaboration with industry and international scientific partners

Profile of candidates/requirements:

MSc diploma in one of the following: physics, optoelectronics, photonics, nanotechnology, material science
or chemistry.
Interest in the topic of project, in particular both experimental and theoretical optics
Curiosity driven passion for scientific research, respect to others and openness for teamwork
Solid knowledge and experience in some of the following areas: (1) fiber optics, (2) modeling of
electromagnetic properties of optical media, (3) wave optics, (4) optical fiber drawing technology.
Good knowledge of English.
