GRINGO
Gringo is a strong and expanding family run business, as passionate about Fair
Trade as we were when we first started, but still small enough to care and try to
make a difference.
Founded in 1988, Gringo has grown from very humble beginnings, starting
in a small workshop under the house, sewing up our own leggings, to now, a
comprehensive one-stop ethnic shop.
Today, our product ranges are wide, diverse, unusual and ORIGINAL. We continue
to globe trot around the world, on the lookout for super new products for you to
sell, from colourful clothing, hats and bags to awesome gifts and crafts.
We hope, that like us, you enjoy being unique and standing out from the mass
production of the high street.
GRINGO NEPAL APPEAL.
25th April 2015....
A catastrophic earthquake rocked Nepal, causing massive structural damage to
Kathmandu and reduced the surrounding villages to rubble. We at Gringo want
to help these humble people rebuild their lives. We are sending money directly
to Nepal, where we are buying rice and distributing it to the destroyed villages
and buying materials needed to rebuild their homes.
If you would like to donate, please pay money into the following account:Bank name.............Barclays
Account Name.......Gringo Nepal Appeal
Sort code................20-58-72
Account No............83203174
Thank you for your help.

FAIR TRADE
Gringo’s motto is “AID THROUGH TRADE “
We have always been passionate about fair trade and through long term
partnerships with our suppliers, we endeavour to be as 100% fair trade and
ethically sourced as possible, throughout our whole supply chain.
We only buy from small scale producers, such as family run businesses and
cooperatives, which we visit in person, to check that our fair trade principles are
met. We have been dealing with some of these family businesses for more than
15 years and a mutual bond of respect and trust has developed between us.
By us all helping these people to sell their goods, we can push their families
out of the poverty trap and improve their standard of living. By guaranteeing a
continuous supply of orders, they can have more control over their lives, without
the threat of unemployment and they can also invest in their factories, thus
improving the quality of their goods for all.
In Bali alone, we deal with over 80 different small family run businesses (a challenge
for our ordering department) and around 110 small enterprises altogether, when
you include Nepal and India. We endeavour to visit all our suppliers at least once
a year. This is to ensure that there is no child labour involved in our production,
that the working conditions are safe and clean, that there is equality for both men
and women, and that they have religious freedom.
We always ask and pay our suppliers what they need for their goods, and never
hassle down their prices. We keep our margins to a minimum and are proud of
our transparent dealings with them.
We also help to encourage traditional methods of carving and decoration, keeping
local expertise alive and offering much needed employment in poor rural areas
for women in their homes.
MATERIALS.
Most of our wooden crafts are from Bali which are carved from Abesia and
Balalu wood, which are fast growing soft woods. The trees can be harvested
within 3 years and are constantly being replanted, thus insuring a continuous
supply of wood. We guarantee that the wood we use is always from sustainable
sources.
We like to recycle and make clothing and bags from fabric off cuts and try to up
cycle as much as possible from the cutting room floor. As our patchwork ranges
are so popular, we often have to include new fabric in some of our patchwork.
As our goods are hand carved, hand painted, hand embellished and all hand
-made, sometimes colours and sizes may vary slightly. This should be looked
upon as a symbol of uniqueness, and each piece should be thought of what it is
- A Work of Art!
Above all, we endeavour to shine brightly above our competitors and to offer
you something totally unique. You can relish in the fact that when you buy from
Gringo, you are buying fairly traded and ethically sourced, unusual, novel and
beautiful things that we all love.
