SAP Regional Social Sabbatical
The SAP Regional Social Sabbatical is a shortterm volunteer program that allows SAP
employees the opportunity to provide
consultant services to organizations and NGOs
in their own regional markets. The participants
take advantage of the opportunity to leverage
their strategic business, management and
leadership skills in order to help solve
challenges by providing new perspectives and
implementing
innovate
processes
and
techniques to host organizations. Participants
get the unique chance to turn SAP’s vision of
“helping the world run better and improving
people’s lives” into their personal reality.
Organizations selected to participate will
benefit from a two-week pro bono consulting
engagement of a team of approximately 2-4
participants on a demand-driven project that
will improve their effectiveness and accelerate
their ability to achieve their mission.
A Social Sabbatical team recently deployed to
Accra, Ghana in April 2016. Eleven SAP
Executives from around the world worked with
four local Ghanaian organizations on strategic
projects and initiatives:
For Dreamoval the team developed a strategic
plan for sustainability and revamped their
training program for teachers.
The team with Soronko created a plan to build
the first coding school for girls in West Africa.
The Women in Tech Africa team helped them
plan to expand its reach to the rest of the
continent.
The participants who worked with Aid to
Artisans Ghana worked to improve the
alignment
between
the
business
and
development sides of the organization.
The SAP Regional Social Sabbatical stands out
for its interest in academic education,
mentoring,
entrepreneurship
and
the
preparation of young people with skills
necessary for the 21st century workforce. By
focusing the talent, technology and capital of
the company on these areas, the program
strives to effect social change through
economic expansion, job creation, innovation
and community development.

“Their presence with us in the two weeks here has enlightened
us on what and how to scale. In the long-term we will expand
the program to reach more teachers.”
Frances Ahene-Affoh, Lead, Business Development & Marketing
DreamOval Foundation
Christchurch, New Zealand
May 20 – June 3, 2017
There is some minimal commitment required to participate in
the program. This includes providing a desk at the office with
internet, translation if needed, a dedicated project coordinator,
daily transport from the consultants’ accommodation to and
from work, any assignment-related field trips, and regular
access to decision makers.
SAP teams provide
consulting services free of
charge, but selected host
organizations are expected
to:
SAP participants bring a variety of skills and expertise to the
project, from operations to logistics, supply chain management,
marketing & branding, to finance and human resources. This
assignment is for two weeks and projects are designed to
provide support for a particular need or opportunity that the
selected organization identifies.
1. Work closely with
PYXERA Global
representatives to
identify the challenge to
be assessed by the SAP
team and to create a
detailed scope of work
with activities and
milestones for the team
to deliver.
2. Provide a dedicated
project coordinator
fluent in English.
3. Ensure access to
decision makers for the
duration of the
assignment.
4. Provide daily
transportation from the
consultants’
accommodations to the
work site.
Generally, the program will start with your organization’s
leadership and key personnel meeting with the entire SAP team
to brief them on your organization and where you have
challenges. It is important for you to design a schedule over two
to three days for the team to visit locations where you work,
including your primary office, but also key project stakeholders
or other locations that will provide them the context they need.
We strongly recommend frequent check points with your
management team throughout the two weeks. At the end of the
assignment, the participants will deliver a detailed presentation
outlining the recommendations and solutions to your
management team. An executive presentation to a larger
audience involving local SAP associates may be included at the
end of the program.
SAP team consultants and PYXERA Global representatives will
work with you to determine the most appropriate project
deliverable, but generally it is a PowerPoint presentation to the
organization’s leadership, a written report based on the
observational assessment, accompanied by short and/or long
term implementation plans.
