'Total sexual violence' includes sexual assaults i.e. any physical contact (includes touching) with a person against their will or without proper consent; sexual
assault with a weapon; aggravated sexual assault; sexual abuse and exploitation of minors; and other sexual offences.
2
Turkey
Break in series: A new recording system was applied in the year 2005 by the new Turkish Penal Code.
3
Hungary
National definition of 'total sexual violence' does differ from that of the present questionnaire; as not all sexual crimes against children are included therein. The
notion of sexual violence encounters only violent sexual offences; where violence against a person or direct threat against a person's life or health is made use
of. However there are certain sexual crimes against children which do not involve violence; such as seduction. These offences are excluded.

Break in series: Since 01.10.2005 there is a new data structure in the Register of Criminal Offences.
Figures for Total Sexual Violence include 'Rape'; 'Attempted rape'; 'Other sexual intercourse' (i.e. includes intercourse with children in care and taking sexual
advantage of mentally ill); and Sexual offences against children; wich includes 'Sexual intercourse with children' (under 16) and 'Sexual act with children under
16 years of age'. 'Incest'; and sexual offences witch do not imply physical contact; not included.
Break in series: The Sexual Offences Act 2003 introduced in May 2004 altered the definition and coverage of sexual offences.
Break in series: In June 2005 Police replaced the Law Enforcement System (LES) with the National Intelligence Application (NIA). This system change
caused a step-change in recorded crime statistics; varying between different crime types and police districts. Caution should be observed when making
inferences from these statistics about trends in the incidence of crime in New Zealand.

Rape means sexual intercourse without valid consent above 18 years.
Staff of the Central Statistics Office has been seconded to the Mauritius Police Force as from 2007. Consequently; data collection at the Police has been
reviewed and previous figures revised according to statistical concepts and definition.
Rape' includes sexual assault with a weapon and aggravated sexual assault that may or may not involve sexual intercourse.
Rape; defined by the FBI as; 'the carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will;' does not include offenses perpetrated against males.
Reported numbers in 2003 and 2004 include the sextual assault.
Break in series: new recording system was applied in the year 2005 by the new Turkish Penal Code.

The definition of rape in the Swedish law is 'a person who by violence involves; or appears to threatened person to involve imminent danger; forces another
person to have sexual intercourse or to engage in a comparable sexual act; that having regard to the nature of the violence and the circumstances in general;
is comparable to enforced sexual intercourse'.

Break in series: the Sexual Offences Act 2003 introduced in May 2004 altered the definition and coverage of sexual offences.
Seuls les viols commis par des hommes sur une femme par voie vaginale sont comptabilisés.
