NC Omega Beta
Alumni Association

Not Four Years,
But a Lifetime

Letter from the President:
Greetings Fratres,
As an undergrad, I always said: “Pi Lambda Phi is a business
and our product is party.” As the Alumni Association
President, I am tasked with defining the objective of a greatly
different organization: one catering to alumni of spanning
generations. The Alumni Association is tasked with
recapturing the hearts and minds of our constituents to drive
participation (in whatever form that maybe).
How do we hold onto the hearts of our alumni? Perhaps we
constantly remind our members about why they fell in love
with this organization so many (or so few) years back. Perhaps
they must remember their personal sacrifice and reward when
they “worked for it, sweated for it, cursed it, and loved it,” - as
we all have. Perhaps we must remind them why we all said,
and believed: “Not four years, but a lifetime.”
Perhaps, to alumni, the fraternity is a love affair and the alumni
association’s product is fraternal nostalgia – here to maintain
the connection that all worked so hard to establish.
For that reason, I am committed to holding an upscale Alumni
Event annually, sending newsletters semesterly, updating our
blog monthly, involving non-Alumni Board members
regularly, and much more to keep Pi Lam and UNC in your
heads and hearts.

Philanthropy

In the past two years, we have made incredible strides to create
this Alumni Board. In the next two, we aim to take even
greater strides towards building an Alumni Community who
continue to live by our timeless mantra: “Not four years, but a
lifetime.”

Pi Lam undergrads raised money for Habitat for Humanity
through a TV raffle in early February. Additionally, they have
an upcoming pancake dinner benefiting the National
Elimination of Prejudice program and Wingfest later this
semester, supporting habitat for humanity.

Fraternally submitted,

Alumni Events

Jeremy Drawas
Alumni Association President

On Saturday March 25th, 2017, the Undergrads will be hosting
an open March Madness viewing party at the house and
encourage any alumni in the area to attend.
We will be holding our Black Tie Alumni Gala during The UNC
Homecoming Weekend in Fall 2017. Stay tuned for the specific
date announcement!

Alumni Association Update:
Scholarship

Alumni Officer Goals
Jeremy Drawas (President)

Creating a scholarship from a legally non-profit fund has proven
to be more challenging than anticipated; however, we are
working hard and expect to have the Michael Sullivan
Scholarship up and running by the end of 2017 to help our
quality brothers in need of financial assistance.

To promote visibility and participation, I’d like to host a
semesterly Open Alumni Call and a bimonthly call with key
non-Alumni Board contributors. Additionally, I’d like to give
the Alumni Board the resources they need to be successful in
their roles and get 100 Active Alumni in 2017.

Mentorship Program

Alton Wright (Vice President)

Last year we kicked off the Mentorship program by collecting
information on Alumni who might be interested helping
undergrads meet their personal aspirations. This year, we have
a dedicated Mentorship Chair who is going to take the program
to the next level. More on that in our ‘Goals’ section of this
newsletter. If you’d like to sign up to be a mentor, please do so
here.

As VP, my goals for the year are to further build the alumni
association’s membership (through growth of new members
and retaining our current members), help develop new
programs or events targeted to the various interests and
locations of our alumni brothers, and establish a digital
database of NC Omega Beta’s historical documents (rush
books, composites, awards, etc.) to preserve as much of our
chapter’s history as we can collect.

Financial update
Thanks to the generosity of our alumni base, our Alumni
Association continues to improve our financial position. In
addition to having a few thousand dollars available for
operational activities, we have begun to build a small “rainy
day” fund, which can be used to support our undergraduate
chapter, should they ever need it.

Wes Bordeaux (Treasurer)

As we start the new year, we are looking forward to putting
additional emphasis on our fundraising efforts so we can fund
more elaborate alumni events, support undergraduate
scholarships, and continue to build our “rainy day” fund to
ensure that our chapter will be around for a long time to come.

Nikko Carlson (Secretary)

I hope to manage the financial resources within our purview
effectively and efficiently and provide an increase level of
financial transparency to our alumni. I plan to work with our
alumni to identify and implement best practices to help build
and mature our association.

As the nexus of communication for the Alumni Association, I
hope to utilize social media to engage all members, expanding
the network and flow of information.

Alec Loeb (Website & Data Chair)
Of course, we owe a very special thanks to all of our 2016 Active
Alumni, without whom, we would be unable to operate. A list
of 2016 Active Alumni is provided at the end of this newsletter.
We are now opening up our portal for 2017 Active Alumni
donations. Please sign up to become a 2017 Active Alumnus
on our website today by paying $50/year or $4/month.

My goals are to clean up our existing alumni data base and make
sure we capture 100% of all new alumni's information. I will
also work to update and improve our website to hopefully
include purchasable Pi Lam items on site, accurate info about
alumni and the undergrad chapter, and current news and events.

Buddy Amis (Outreach Chair)
Because I want to ensure that alumni of all generations feel
included, I will reach out and have meaningful conversations
with Alumni spanning back to our original founding at UNC.
We will hold a telethon and mailing campaign annually to
ensure we reach as many alumni as possible.

Roberto Rupcich (Mentorship Chair)
As Mentorship chair, I will be pairing up undergraduate brothers
with an alumnus to serve as a career mentor. I will also have one
alumni per semester come speak at Chapter about their transition
from college to their career and their journey to success.
