Girls and Boys of All Ages
The Program:
The off-ice program is designed to force the player to stick handle at
a high and accurate level outside of their comfort zone. To
accomplish this, The Handler focuses on the 3 major ingredients of
being a great stick handler:
• Hand Speed
• Hand Softness
Known as the “3 H’s”
• Hand-Eye
Coordination
The Handler does not teach moves such as “the Toe-Drag”; The
Handler is about teaching the correct body movements which
enables the player to make the fancy moves. My program focuses on
the direct connection with muscle memory, cognitive thinking, and
the simple motor skills necessary to stick handle. Working with me
or certified Handler instructors once a week and practicing The
Handler steps for three, 20 minute sessions at home has proven to
be a formula for success with platers. The Handler now has over 50
steps and movements that will challenge a player from age 5 the most
elite players. All of the steps are challenging and FUN. Specific steps
ensure that each player continues to push themselves to the
maximum performance.
My 4th “H” is Happy Time. Having fun brings out the creativity in
each player, which ultimately allows the player to have more fun
while learning; this is something that I have been teaching for 11
years. With video proof, I now know that it takes around 12 – 16
weeks to increase stick handling abilities around 40%. For the players
who have natural athletic abilities, they will develop at a quicker rate.
Conversely, those who struggle with their motor skills will need about
4 – 6 more weeks to increase their stick handling.

Matt Noga battles Chris Chelios during the 2004 NHL Lockout.

SOME HANDLER HISTORY:
CONNOR CARRICK
Connor (‘94) was my 1st
player to ever complete
The Handler. Connor
started participating in
the program when he
was 11 years old; we
trained 2 – 3 times per
week for almost four
years. As an NHL player,
Carrick still completes
his Handler steps
weekly.

Some More News…
After meeting with USA Hockey, this is what they
reported: “We are very intrigued to start seeing
stick handling results with our youth hockey
players in just 12 – 16 weeks.”
