this Spring, Firkin Crane plays host to a
number of dance initiatives for, by and
with children.
Siobhán Ní Dhuinnín follows last year’s fantastic
Super Moves, with a new performance project,
UNDER YOUR NOSE, with young performers aged
8-12, on Skiddy’s Castle Plaza. Devised by Siobhán
as part of her Associate Artist programme for
Cork’s Dance Artist in Residence at Firkin Crane,
the project also involves composer Neil Quigley
and artist Luke Sisk, and is an amazing opportunity
for boys to explore their city and their creativity.
Currently recruiting! Boys are also welcome to
join FC/DC BOYS DANCE CLUB, which continues
its weekly sessions, led by dance artist Maria
Svensson, with guest workshops from visiting
male dance artists.
Fidget Feet brings its spectacular, globetrotting, aerial dance to Firkin Crane in March,
with STRANGE FEATHERS, a performance
specially for audiences aged 18 months to 7 years.
Older audiences also get a chance to enjoy the
company at the evening’s HANG ON, a virtuosic
struggle between the sexes.
Cork Youth Dance Company returns in April
with its second performance, BREAKING POINTE,
showcasing the talents of its young performers,
who are drawn from dance schools across Cork.
We also have two exciting new research
projects on dance and young people in residence.

innovative BEAG Early Years Arts Programme
this year, to include dance. Dance artist Maria
Svensson will be developing dance practice for
very early years, and exploring dance in childcare
settings. Lisa Cahill, a dance artist and movement

Continuing education and training are
essential for professional dance practitioners.
As well as ongoing WEEKLY CLASSES, we have
three specialist workshops this season. Cork’s
Dance Artist in Residence at Firkin Crane
programme is providing two choreography
workshops, with Norwegian dance artist KARI
HOAAS, and acclaimed composer/performer
1%88)3*%6+-32ƱLILIVE ARCHIVE project
explores repertoire and documentation as source
material in its workshop, led by Drs Finola Cronin
and Emma Meehan. A brand new departure is
the CATCH8 SERIES-VIPERHŶWƯVWXTVSJIWWMSREP
contemporary dance workshop festival,
produced by Luke Murphy, director of Firkin
Crane’s Company in Residence, Attic Projects. A
roster of highly-regarded international and Irish
choreographers lead this week-long intensive.
Continuity of support is also essential for

in February, we go back 30 years to explore its
history in Ireland at LIVE ARCHIVE, a creative
exhibition and evening of performance based on

We also look outwards, as QUARTER BLOCK PARTY
climbs the hill from Main Street for a weekend of
dance in Firkin Crane.

NELKEN-Line, and dance one the most famous
dance sequences ever created by iconic German
choreographer Pina Bausch, as part of Dublin
Dance Festival’s involvement in a global project by
the Pina Bausch Foundation and ARTE. Watch out

Quarter Block Party climbs Cork’s historic spine to Firkin
Crane, for a weekend of new dance.
Coming from Oakland, California, Snake Talk is a zany,
disquieting, feminist evening length performance
spectacle that navigates interspecies intimacy, feminine
voraciousness and wild unfettered dancing. A thirdwave feminist proposal nestled within an extreme and
SǔIRYRGSQJSVXEFPIEIWXLIXMGJVEQI[SVO7REOI8EPO
harnesses the somewhat terrifying aesthetic of the
“zany” to confront, consume and transmute patriarchal
and neoliberalist frameworks. Created and performed by
collaborative choreographic team Maryanna Lachman,
Mara Madrona and Abby Crain.

a 5-day choreographic workshop based on a philosophy
that recognizes individuality and questions the choices we

Associate Professor at the Norwegian College of Dance in
Oslo, she spent more than a decade working in New York
City. Her work has been produced and presented all over
