Why Self-Talk Matters
- How we think and feel about our experiences
affects the outcome we will have.
- If we expect negative outcomes, we create them
through self fulfilling prophecy.

- When we shift our internal monologue from a
focus on negative core beliefs to positive self-talk,
we allow more positivity in all other areas of our
life.

Step 1: Observe Without Judgement
The first, and most important step necessary
for shifting your thoughts from negative to
positive is noticing them in the first place. If we
don’t see the issue than what are we fixing?

In this step, you actively notice, paying close
attention to the language you use to describe
yourself and how you feel about yourself on a dayto-day basis.

Step 1 Continued...
The key is observing without passing
judgement or assigning meaning to what you are
noticing. This is not easy, but it is crucial that you
make an effort to let go of judgement.

Just notice. Make note of the way in which you
talk to yourself. What is your internal monologue
saying about you? How does it make you feel?
What would you like to shift?

Step 2: Name It To Tame It
Once you have noticed your internal
monologue, identify the negative components
that are keeping you feeling stuck or less than.
Write them out if you are a visual person.

can say them out loud if you are more of an
auditory learner. However best works for you,
make sure that you are naming the negative
thought pattern.
This both gives it a voice and takes away it’s
power, allowing you to identify exactly what it is
that you want to shift.

Step 3: Challenge The Thought
Next, you challenge the thought by asking
yourself, “Is this true?”
This step seems obvious but is often skipped over.
Be sure not to miss this step, as it is where

true transformational shift begins.
Question your thought process. Challenge that
internal monologue of yours.
Is it true? Is this belief that I hold, really the truth
about me? Is it true all the time or just in certain
instances?
