Ever Increasing Need of Dentistry In
India

We generally assume that most of the Indians must be brushing teeth or even providing the
kind of care that is expected for their teeth and gums. However, the reality is that there are
still huge number of people out there who are not able to go to a dentist due to variety of
reasons. The lack of awareness on their part as well as the lowest priority are keeping them
away. While we can’t deny that over the last century, health situation has improved
significantly. But this improvement, however, has not been experienced equally across the
population, being considerably greater among the better off. In this background, the dentistry
becomes far more important for India and Indians. Oral health is always an inseparable part
of general health.
While we can’t deny that over the last century, health situation has improved significantly. But
this improvement, however, has not been experienced equally across the population, being
considerably greater among the better off. In this background, the dentistry becomes far
more important for India and Indians. Oral health is always an inseparable part of general
health.
The oral diseases are on the rise in many developing and underdeveloped countries. The
modification in the dietary habits, improved oral hygiene practices, effective use of fluorides,
and establishment of school-based preventive programs need to be implemented. And
beyond this is the need for awareness about dentistry and effective dental sciences. The oral
health awareness, dental health knowledge, and attitudes among the children and parents in

developed countries has been cited as an important contributing factor for improved oral
health. Literature in the past has found the dental disease levels to be associated with cultural
differences, low-income families, lower educational levels, low levels of oral health knowledge,
inadequate oral hygiene, fewer dental visits, and a highly cariogenic diet. Hence, no guesses,
why we need increased role of dentistry in India.
Need to promote oral hygiene as a basic etiquette
Oral hygiene behavior and seeking oral healthcare depend on a number of factors. Patients
comply better with oral health care regimens when informed and positively reinforced.
Further, oral health attitudes and beliefs are significant for oral health behavior. A higher
likelihood of seeking preventive dental care is found to be associated with dental health
knowledge. The motives prompting people to seek preventive dental care include the beliefs
that one is susceptible to dental disease, that dental problems are serious, and that dental
treatment is beneficial. Those who believe that they are highly susceptible to dental disease
make more preventive dental visits. The attitude, awareness, habits, and behavior determine
ultimately the level of health and oral health in an individual.
The rising social awareness is creating the need for better health conditions including happy
faces and nice smiles. Even beyond that, the fact that any food can’t really benefit the body
without healthy teeth, is driving the people towards quality dental clinics. Yet at a massive
scale, that can’t be possible without the availability and accessibility of dentistry among
masses.
The qualified dentists who are ready to shed the conventional techniques and move ahead by
adopting digital means can prove to be an asset for the dentistry in India. The patients can
feel at ease only when they are taken care of gently. The rough handling and perceptions
about dentistry among masses needs to be done away with. Indians increasingly need both
oral hygiene and dentistry.
Vatech India, a leading player in the field, is striving to ensure the digital revolution in the
country to match the increasing needs. The digital IOS sensors enable dentists not only to
spend more time with their patients but also the clear imaging solutions on real time basis.
