Magnesium Oxide Board - Applications, Features and Uses
Magnesium oxide board is a factory-made and non-insulating board product. The Mgo board can be
mainly used for a wide number of applications such as ceiling linings, wall, tile backing, fascias, soffits
and underlayment. This type of board can be used as structurally in the bracing for walls and semistructurally in the underlayment for flooring.
Primarily, this board is made up of magnesium oxide, so it is commonly known as Mgo board because of
its presence of chemical composition of magnesium and oxygen. The magnesium oxide board is a form
of sheathing board that can be similar to the cement fiber board or gypsum board. This includes so
many characteristics such as strength, fire resistance, flexibility, weather ability, mildew, adherence
benefits and resistance to mould and so on.
At present, this magnesium board is readily available for building constructions that comes in different
sheet sizes and thicknesses. It also comes in different grades such as rough textures, smooth finishes
and utility grades. It is also available in beige, white or light gray in color. This board has capable to
absorb the water and its performance is unaffected.
Therefore, the Mgo board can be used in indoor, outdoor and also in damp locations like showers. As
like normal Portland cement based sidings, this magnesium oxide board is widely used outdoors in the
exposed locations and it requires sealing in a similar way as cement. When compared to cement fiber
board, the magnesium oxide board is a cheap alternative to use with superior characteristics. It is also
extensively used in the construction for the tallest buildings like world famous Taipei.
The Mgo board is now available in different thicknesses that can be ranged from 25mm EPS to 150mm
EPS. This board is a classic rated and non-combustible material, so it does not need any fire insulation.
