The Lincoln Cultural Center, In Partnership With the Lincoln
Theatre Guild, Proudly Presents: “Thunder Over Carolina.”
To: All Members of the Press;
For Immediate Release;
The morning of June 20, 1780 at the site now known as Battle Ground, (originally Ramsour’s Mill), a
group of Tory (loyal to the king) militia, were encamped when they were surprised by the local Whigs
(patriot) forces. It was on this day, the residents of our county fought; As the fighting raged, it was
often that most fought their own neighbors and even brothers for the right to stand free from British
Our forefathers, these early Patriots, gave to us a legacy to be honored, and in doing so the Lincoln
Cultural Center (LCC) in conjunction with the Lincoln Theatre Guild (LTG) seek to resurrect the drama
“Thunder Over Carolina” in an effort to tell the story of the Battle of Ramsour’s Mill to those who have
not heard or remind those whom have, of the sacrifices made (May 18,19 at 7 PM and 20, at 3 PM
and at 7 PM). The bravery demonstrated by common people without the finest of arms to stand up
and fight is honored in this play; as well as the loved ones who supported them, welcomed them
home, or mourned their loss.
The script first written by Charles W. Loveland in 1955 and readapted by Ryan Gurganious to add
more historic points of interest as well as to heighten the dramatic effect. Veteran director, Pete
DeGregory will lead the cast and support team to produce a quality performance.
Contact Lincoln Cultural Center at (704) 732-9055 for more information.
