Sleeping with Simon
MCG’s chosen charity, Simon on the Streets, is taking its annual sponsored sleep out –
#SleepWithSimon – to a new level this year, with a move to the Royal Armouries that will
allow many more people to take part.
Following the growing success of the fundraising event that challenges supporters to spend
a night sleeping in the open air, the charity is aiming to attract more than 300 people to
take part on Thursday 25 September this year, whether it’s teams of business
colleagues or individuals.
MCG’s team is providing free advice and support to help promote the event, which is
Simon on the Streets’ biggest annual fundraising opportunity. The charity offers streetbased support for those in need in Leeds, Huddersfield and Bradford, providing front-line
emotional and practical help for people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
Currently supporting in the region of 100 service users across the region, the charity helps
people access the services they need to make positive changes in their lives.
General Manager of Simon on the Streets, Helen Beachell said: “Whilst it’s impossible to
accurately re-create the feelings of vulnerability and despair that sleeping rough every
night can create, we’ve found that the sponsored sleep out is a real eye-opener for anyone
who takes part. Our team are there to give advice about how to build a shelter and keep
your possessions safe, sharing their own experiences of sleeping rough.
Anyone interested in taking part in #SleepWithSimon can visit the dedicated website
www.sleepwithsimon.co.uk to find out more. A new smart phone app will also be available
to allow people to share images and tips in the run up to the event, and this will be
available on Android and iOS.
Tour De France hopeful trials Damart’s innovative Summer
This year, we are sponsoring Jamie Ridehalgh, a promising young cyclist from West
Yorkshire and possible yellow jersey wearer of the future. Jamie tells us what he thought of
Damart’s summer sportswear range:’
“Keeping cool during a summer of cycling is very difficult. Damart’s winter thermals are
great for combatting the winter cold, but summer is a different time and poses far different
“Luckily, during these warmer months, I’ve been able to trial Damart Sport, aimed at
keeping athletes like me cool in the heat. Made from Damart’s unique Ocealis fabric, the
range has helped me massively in terms of flexibility, comfort, and, of course, keeping
“In the past I’ve tried all sorts of different summer sports clothing but few have done the
job. However with the Damart Sport products I’ve been comfortable, allowing me to
concentrate solely on my cycling, especially during the hot summer we’ve had this year!
The fabric is lightweight, making it really comfortable and breathable, and I wore them
again and again for training.
“The whole sports range comes in loads of different colours and styles. My personal
favourite though is the short sleeved t-shirt in yellow, because as you can guess, it reminds
me of the Tour De France yellow jersey!”

Doing it in Style
MCG has been working with home shopping fashion brand, Damart to give online styling
tips to its customers and social media followers.
The team worked with former fashion editor and stylist, Julie Dickson to produce video
content giving tips on how to wear key items for the new Autumn/Winter collection,
including how to wear jeggings, colour and dressing to flatter your body shape.
Shot in studios in Manchester using a professional model, the four videos will be posted on
YouTube throughout the season and linked to social media posts and emails sent to
customers. Photography taken at the shoot will also be used on social media and the
Damart website throughout the season giving timely styling advice.
MCG Account Manager, Sophie Hayes said: “Extensive research has shown that Damart
customers welcome advice on how to put outfits together and how to wear certain pieces. It
was great to work with a professional stylist who understands how to style women as they
grow older and produce a range of videos and information for customers and social media
followers that we can grow each season.”

We are getting into gear for The Grand Départ!
With Yorkshire ready and eagerly awaiting the first leg of the Tour De France next
weekend, staff at our Bingley and Steeton offices have been getting into the spirit of the
event with a day-long ‘spin-a-thon’ in aid of a charity close to our hearts.
For the past seven years, we have been been finding new ways of raising money for
Yorkshire-based national charity Heart Research UK, and this week we’re getting in gear
and giving our hearts a workout as well.
In the run up to the Tour de France Grand Départ, staff at both our headquarters in Bingley
and our distribution centre in Steeton will take it in turns to attempt to cycle all day on a
stationary exercise bike in order to raise as much money as possible whilst paying tribute
to the great endurance of the cyclists who are soon to take on the 391km route around
Our Marketing and Ecommerce Director, Phil Anderson said: “Heart Research UK is a
fantastic charity that we are proud to support. I think the spin-a-thon is a great way for our
staff to have fun, get active, and most importantly give to a charity that helps transform the
lives of those affected by heart disease.”
Barbara Harpham, the national director of Heart Research UK, said: “To have Damart’s
support is fabulous. Heart disease touches so many lives, some people are born with it and
others develop it later in life, often through making unhealthy life choices. In fact around
100,000 people have heart attacks in the UK every year and 2.3 million people live with
coronary heart disease every day.
“The money raised through Damart’s hard work will help fund our Helping Little Hearts
campaign to improve rehabilitation for youngsters who have undergone heart surgery or
are living with a congenital heart condition. Adults are offered rehabilitation when they
have had heart problems but this rarely happens with children. We aim to help them leave
hospital with their own personal exercise “prescription” giving them the confidence to keep
as fit and healthy as they can.”
