Take 85 North to exit 113, which is the I-985 exit. I-985 exits to the LEFT two lanes. If
you are in a VW or pulling a camper, you will probably be traveling in the slow lane. So
start making your way to the left lanes around mile marker 110 to make sure you don’t
miss the exit.
You’ll be on 985 for a long time. Just keep following 985, and it’ll eventually turn into
US23/441. It’ll be about 96 miles before you make any actual turns. The first actual
turn will be in Franklin, North Carolina.
In Franklin, you’ll need to make a right turn to continue following 23/441.
You’ll follow this road for about 19 miles and find yourself at the bottom of a hill (stop
light) with a huddle house on your left. As soon as you pass that stop light, make sure
you are in the LEFT travel lane. You are going to go straight through the stop light, and
up a big hill. At the top of the hill, 23 and 441 split and you will go LEFT to follow 441.
You will then travel about 7.5 miles and take exit 74 to continue on 441.
Go about 5.5 miles and you’ll get to an intersection where you have to turn. You’ll need
to turn RIGHT. There are two right turn lanes, get in the left one.
Go half a mile and turn left at the next light to follow 19/441
Congrats, you are now in downtown Cherokee and almost there!
follow this road through downtown for about two miles and then turn right onto Acquoni
Rd and then an immediate left onto Big Cove Road.
Follow the twists and turns of Big Cove Road for about 8.2 miles.
(about half way on this road, there is a really tight curve with a gas station if you need
gas or any last minute supplies).
Around 8.2 miles, you’ll take a right onto Bunches Creek Road. There should likely be a
big yellow sign for the campground, so look for that.
Go about 1.5 miles and you’ll be at the campground. Check-in at the building on the left
side of the road!
