Sensory disabilities (seeing and hearing)
Learning disabilities
Physical disabilities
Mental Impairments
Injury or disability (Work place claims)

Attitude – what we think and how we act with
persons with disabilities – major customer
service barrier)
Architectural/Structural – walls, stairs, doors
plus objects that obstruct accessible pathways

SECTION 2 - COMMUNICATION
Points to remember when
interacting/communicating with a disabled
person
Be respectful
Don’t make assumptions as to what the person can
or cannot do
Speak directly to the person with a disability – not
to their support person or anyone with them

COMMUNICATION
Be patient – conversation might take abit longer
Avoid interacting with service animals
Only touch assistance devices if asked
If you do not know what to do? Ask the person with
the disability.
