Abu Ghurab
This site is one of the very mystical locations in Egypt, it comprises a very unique structure called the
Sun Temple, and according to the writings in the surrounded ruins historians relate it to King
Nyuserre Ini from the 5th dynast, around 2445 BC.
Also the location supposed to have 2 sun temples in the area not just one, the 2nd would be related
to King Userkaf the founder of the 5th dynasty, around 2449 BC, but we didn’t find it yet or maybe it
was dismantled and the stone were taken completely.
The main structure is designed in a very powerful shape, a giant obelisk above a huge pedestal.
Why we call it giant obelisk?
According to the huge size of the base we can estimate the giant size of the above obelisk.

This is a design to show how the structure used to look like

This is what is left from the base; the obelisk is no longer there

This is a carving above a granite block at Abu
Ghurab; it shows the shape of the obelisk and its
base.

According to the granite ruins in the area we understand that the obeliske was of one solid piece of
Aswanian granit, and according to the size of the base we can understand that the obelisk was giant.

A unique structure is infront of the base, we call it Ra-Hotep, we didn’t find any simillar. This RaHotep is made out from travertine ‘’Alabaster’’, it is orinted to the 4 cordinal directions.

Another unique structure is found there, but this time we have manyl copies of it in the same area,
these 7 are made from travrtine (are in the West side of the base), and around 7 are made out of
limestone (are in the North side of the Base).

Each one of the 7 vessels has a perefect hole, each one of the limeston vessels has 3holes.

We are not very sure yet about the original function of these vessels, but for sure it is very fare from
any simple function provided by egyptologists.
