ITS or intelligent transport systems are in use across the globe. This system plays a
vital role in saving lives, time as well as money. It eases the task of the driver,
reducing his/her risk of being involved in a car crash. In countries around the world,
road crashes cause suffering and loss of lives. Most collisions occur due to the start
and stop nature of the traffic in congested areas. With the right use of ITS solutions,
traffic flow can be made smoother, congestion can be reduced and hence the
occurrence of accidents will also reduce.
ITS is basically an advanced application that aims to provide innovative services
related to different modes of transportation and traffic management. It enables the
users to be better informed about road conditions, helping them ensure a safer and

current infrastructure. ITS not only plays an important role in reducing congestion
but it can also reduce the consumption of fuel and emission of greenhouse gases.
This will have positive environmental effects.
As far as the applied technologies are concerned, intelligent transport systems vary
considerably. They can range from basic management systems such as traffic signal
control systems and car navigation to more advanced applications that integrate
live data and feedback from different sources. There are various forms of wireless
communication technologies that have been proposed for ITS.
