Industrial Chemicals At Its Best
COMSOS PROJECT TRADING
DESCRIPTION
Industrial chemicals are developed for use in industrial operations or research by industry or
government. Basic chemicals are produced in large quantities. They are available in various purity
specifications, depending on the requirements of the industry.
History
Although chemicals were manufactured and used throughout history, the birth of the heavy
chemical industry coincided with the beginnings of the Industrial Revolution. One of the first
chemicals to be produced in large amounts through industrial process was sulphuric acid.
In the early 18th century, cloth was bleached by treating it with stale urine or sour milk and exposing
it to sunlight for long periods of time, which created a severe bottleneck in production. Sulphuric
acid began to be used as a more efficient agent as well as lime by the middle of the century, but it
was the discovery of bleaching powder that spurred the creation of the first great chemical industrial
enterprise.
Petrochemical
Petrochemicals are chemical products derived from petroleum. The most common classes are
olefins and aromatics. Oil refineries produce olefins and aromatics by fluid catalytic cracking of
petroleum fractions. Chemical plants produce olefins by steam cracking of natural gas liquids like
ethane and propane.
Aromatics are produced by catalytic reforming of naphtha. Olefins and aromatics are the buildingblocks for a wide range of materials such as solvents, detergents, and adhesives. Olefins are the
basis for polymers and oligomers used in plastics, resins, fibres, elastomers, lubricants, and gels.
Applications

They produce good amount of energy in small quantity.
They can be used to produce several products like plastics and fibres.
Their transport is easier.

Industrial minerals
Industrial minerals are geological materials which are mined for their commercial value. They are
used in their natural state or after beneficiation either as raw materials or as additives in a wide
range of applications. An industrial mineral is known for its physical properties such as fibrosity,
insulation capacity, density and hardness.
They are widely used in manufacturing industries that produce paints, glass, rubber, fertilizer, paper,
ceramics etc. They are available in various purity specifications, depending on the requirements of
the industry.
