Watch For Me NC Free Tactical Training Workshop
Enforcement for Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety
Overview
As part of the Watch For Me NC safety campaign, the North Carolina Department of Transportation and UNC’s
Highway Safety Research Center are offering “Enforcement for Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety.” This free
workshop will be offered to participant communities throughout the summer.
This workshop is free and open to members of law enforcement agencies and university police ONLY in
Watch for Me NC Partner Communities.
Course Description
This course provides law enforcement officers with
the special traffic management knowledge and
skills they need to improve pedestrian and bicyclist
safety in their communities. Sgt. Brian Massengill
with the Durham Police Department will present
the latest pedestrian and bicyclist safety
enforcement information. Topic areas include:
Where pedestrians and bicyclists fit in
Engineering for pedestrian/bicycle safety
How pedestrian/bicycle crashes occur
The role of education and enforcement
Relevant laws and enforcement practices
Mock crosswalk enforcement operations
Crash investigation and reporting
Potential law enforcement partners
The course will include hands-on, in-the-field
training on how to conduct a Pedestrian Crosswalk
Enforcement Operation.
When & Where
Trainings will be offered in many of the partner
communities throughout June, July, and August.
Some communities may be asked to travel to
nearby communities for trainings.

Refreshments will be available during the courses.
Lunch will be provided for all participants attending
the full day course.
The exact address will be provided to registrants
about a week before the training.
