Welcome
This workshop is one of main results of a cooperative project developed
between Laboratory of Ecophysyology and Toxicology of Cyanobacteria
– IBCCF/UFRJ and Prof. Brett Neilan former from The University of
New South Wales and now from The University of Newcastle –
Australia.
This scientific event will bring together national and international
researchers specialists in studies on topics related to the cyanobacteria
Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii, and aim to present and discuss the
state of knowledge and gaps detected along years studying this
worldwide-distributed specie. Our goal is to provide an exchange of
knowledge among students and professionals as well as to plot the next
steps to be followed on C. raciborskii physiology, molecular diversity
biology and ecology.

General Workshop Information
The 1st SAWCRS – 1st South American Workshop on Cylindrospermopsis
raciborskii Studies will take place from 11 to 13 of July 2017 at the Institute of
Biophysics Carlos Chagas Filho - Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Cidade
Universitária campus, CCS, Bl. G, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Workgroup themes
During the workshop the main gaps and highlights on the state of knowledge about
South

American

Cylindrospermopsis

raciborskii

studies

covering

ecology,

evolutionary and adaptive aspects as well as molecular diversity, and secondary
metabolites analysis will be discussed.
To make easier this work the discussion will be organized in 3 subgroups as follow:
1. Molecular diversity and Ecophysiology
2. Secundary metabolites production
3. Biological Interactions
Workgroup dynamics
Workgroups dynamics will be organized into four steps:
a) short presentation of each participant emphasizing highlights of research
work that has been done in those topics and main gaps already identified: 10
– 15 minutes for each presentation
b) workgroup discussions,
c) outcomes explanations,
d) proposition of questions for forward works and establishment of collaboration
networks.
