Ninja swords
The Ninja Warriors of Japan had a combat style of their own and the weapons and
dress they wore were designed to help them in their style of combat. As opposed to
the elite Samurai class the Ninjas are considered as low-rank warriors and they were
mostly clad in black. They were known to operate in the dark and they even acted as
spies. The Ninjas were also known as Shinobi and they were capable of carrying out
various missions that included assassination, espionage or even open combat. The
Ninja sword is considered a modified version of the Katana and it is called the ninjato

The Ninjato or Ninja sword
The Ninjas were not a recognized class and they were considered inferior to the
Samurai warriors, so they could not afford to pay for the high-quality steel or hire a
skilled smith. Therefore, the Ninja swords were those made with inferior steel and

knowledge. All the same, these swords were used in a different manner than that of
a Samurai warrior and the sword was actually one of the tools rather than a weapon
carried by the Ninjas. To use a Ninjato effectively, you would have to employ sawing
motion. Therefore Ninjas used it more for stabbing the enemies and cutting into the
flesh of the opponent.
The Ninja swords were shorter than the Katana but they were put to many uses by
the Ninja fighters. The scabbard of the Ninja sword was usually about 3-4 inches
longer than the sword because the tip of the scabbard could be used as a snorkel
when needed. The scabbards had hidden compartments that were useful to hide
small weapons such as spikes, small amounts of poison and daggers. Since the Ninja
technique of warfare involved using the sword as a step to climb onto tall buildings
and the hand- guard was designed to suit this purpose. The Ninja Warriors would jam
the blade on to the ground and use the hand-guard as a small step that will provide
them the extra height required to scale a wall.
You can buy handmade Ninja swords that have blades that have been hand forged,
subjected to proper heat treatment, annealed, quenched and polished using the
traditional process flow and newer advanced technology to produce swords that are
truly characteristic of a Ninja sword from dealers and sellers of Ninja swords online.
