INTRODUCTION

Technology is the
campfire around which
we tell our stories.
An e-submission or presentation is a great opportunity
to show that we prioritise innovation and are capable of
delivering a slick service.
Go ahead, roll over the quote above and the Home button
below, then click on the book. You will be using buttons like
this all the time, to navigate and also to reveal.

HOW TO EXPORT...

PREVIOUS

exporting
From Adobe InDesign, you can export to Interactive Pdf, Swf
(flash), DPS and ePub.
WHY INTERACTIVE PDF?
Interactive Pdfs have fewer bells and whistles than the other
formats, but can be viewed on nearly all devices. You won’t have
animated buttons or automated slideshows, but you can still
take advantage of the roll-over and click button features.

Appearances

Roll over the icon above. Cool isn’t it! I achieved this by
setting a rollover appearance.
CHANGING APPEARANCES
1. Select your image/text frame and open the Buttons
window (for more info on how to find this, scroll over the
icon above)
2. Fill in the form like this...
Type: Button, Name: Button icon, Actions: none added
3. Under Appearance, switch on the eye beside it [Rollover].
This duplicates whatever is in your [Normal] state. If you
want to add to or amend a state, you’ll need to select it.
You can then ‘paste into’ your button or open your Layers
window and drag it into the state.

Don’t forget to name
your button properly. It
will save you headaches.

STEPS

RESET

To reveal buttons, you’ll need to link
them. This is a good way of introducing
simple interactivity into your documents
and it’s a bit more exciting than scrolling
through pages!

You can’t embed an automated slideshow for an
Interactive Pdf, but you can get around this using
buttons. Just make sure you name your buttons
before applying actions, or this could get really
really confusing.

NAVIGATION
In this document, I have used bookmarks to navigate between
sections. However, there are four navigational methods we
could use:

i

1. Button actions
2. Bookmarks as destinations
3. Hyperlinks
4. Contents pages.
The bookmark logo features in the standard
interactive workspace. You can also reach it
here: Window > Interactive > Bookmarks.

To make a bookmark, highlight your frame
or text and hit ‘create new bookmark’ (at the
bottom, to the left of the trash can ).

Having an automatically generated
table of contents means your PDF will
already incorporate interactivity. For
heck out the Table of Contents section
of this document.

You can then link your button to this bookmark
using Go To Destination, then choosing your
desired bookmark from the dropdown menu.

Take a look at the buttons on the top
right of this page. To do this, go to the
buttons window, hit the plus sign to
add an action, e.g. GO TO PREVIOUS
PAGE or GOT TO NEXT PAGE

abc
Click on your object or text, hit the
Interactive icon (above) and type
your URL. Easy as pie!
